is this male pattern baldness or stress related hairloss?

hard to tell without seeing your hairline.

My hair loss is very diffuse, all over the top of my scalp and a little on the sides, norwood pattern in general, and then slow but steady hairline recession (very early stages though so it's ok).

It's mostly the pattern that gives away if it's male pattern baldness or not...

i will get a picture of the hair line tonight and post it in this thread.

hm, I mean there are some signs of recession.

Like... how is your health as well? I believe there is a strong connection of male pattern baldness and health in many individuals :)

ive always had a higher hair line, but i have recently noticed recession on the sides as well.

had full blood work, everything is in order except high iron which was near the top of its range but not outside it... the only way to bring this down is give blood, which starts in june with regular visits and doctor super vision. so that will be handled

like i said earlier, diet is pretty solid, supplements are there (zinc, multi, fish oil, protein). weights and cardio (soccer or basketball) 4-6 days a week depending on rest and food intake.

single and in late 20s, so one night a week gets late with some drinking / partying ... but doesnt really change any other aspect of life, and without going out there is no point in having hair, so i wont cut the 1 nite a week i go out

questions:
1. what pattern would you classify me as Norwood?
2. assuming i get the finasteride, and i am currently using nizoral 4-7 times a weeks, how/when/should i add the minoxidil (lots of different theory on the board, anything particular to my case)?

any other comments welcome. again, great community with quick and thoughtful replies, thx guys

Very sorry to ask this question on your post but when I saw your photos, I was wondering about the areas to the right of the subject area that is a different color and then goes right into the regular hair color? Is that area still healthy areas or are those areas that could be getting affected by the hairloss or maybe a density issue? Mine is that I have a split in my vertex and then it has some of that strange coloring along on the right side of that split, then progressing into my regular hair color. Sorry if this is confusing which honestly, it probably is.

Just to add in, I think definitely if you take something to prevent this, if it is male pattern baldness, you should great results.

Wish you the best!!

Hair loss concealers, occasionally, could be the best option in your case because meds don't regrow your hair lost and maybe deteriorate your health.

All I see is a natural looking mature hairline perfectly normal for someone in their late 20's.
Your hair could easily stay like that for decades.

You CAN stop hair loss anytime.

Before you decide, maybe you should check the emerging science in genetics: http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Epigenetics The expression of our genes is the result of environmental factors particularly conditions which occur many years after birth - bi-directional interchange between heredity and the environment.

Regarding treatment, the first question you should ask yourself is why 'successful' and 'safe' drugs like RU never made it to the mass market in spite of its potential to rake in $1 billion a year.

The next is: How easy would it have been for huge pharmaceutical companies to manufacture topical "anti-androgens" if they were truly effective.

If it's stress related, finasteride or RU will not help but Rogaine might.

What ever you decide, good luck! And maybe perhaps remember the simple question I ask you, 'do you sit for extended periods' doing your chores.

someone requested pictures of the hairline, it wasnt a concern of mine to be honest. i am, however, concerned with the first post pictures towards the crown of my hair.

i will take a look at those links today / tonight when i find time. thanks.

i ask myself those same questions on the RU, they even bothered to do some clinical trials and it didnt pan out, but i am not that familiar with the drug or process to get fda or other regulatory body acceptance

huge pharma doesnt necessarily want to solve / cure you as much as they wnat to treat you forever. if they had a pill you took once and it grew crazy hair and stopped all future hairloss .. well unless it was $1mm a pill, they would rather charge you $100 a month for the rest of your life

i think that stress and environmental factors def. play a roll in some peoples hairloss, but we will never know the cause and i dont think my level of stress is going to go down (from here) as long as i am working 9-5 in a somewhat demanding career. life only gets crazier when you have a wife and kids to support

hence the title of the post. if someone could tell by the hair loss pattern that it was stress related, then i need to make lifestyle changes (even more than i have) and be patient while those lifestyle changes affect my body / hair.\\howevever, if it is male pattern baldness i want to get to the root of the problem, no pun intended, whethere that is genetics, androgens etc ... and if i cant , well meds will slow it down, with a little help from rogain to regrow.... i just dont want to sit around and laer in life wish i did something about my hair at 28

I don't want to scare you but your case looks very similiar to mine. While I started to lose my hair at a little younger age than you, our pattern looks the same....I'm in my 40's so info. and availability of treatments were alot different back then. I didn't do anything about my hairloss back then and you can see from the following pics. how it progressed...as far as a regimen goes...that's the million dollar question isn't it! That's the tough part. Sounds like you know the options that are available. The purpose of my reply is to urge you to do something now. It is far, far easier to keep what you have than to try to make up lost ground! Best of luck to you! :salut:

many thanks for the story / post and pictures! i can def. see similar patterns between you and i.

did you start any treatment, and if so when, what helped, what was / is being effective... any other words of wisdom?

Sorry man, I think I'm way OCD for my own cause. What I was trying to describe, is like the area where you see a little bit of skin/scalp on top, there is an area where it's a different color on the right side of that area & then your hair goes back to normal color. I'm sure I'm thinking too much into it & way too OCD. But all in all I wish you all the best and definitely, you should get good results, I would think, in whatever venue you take.

Don'twanttobebalding- Sorry to hear about your crown & I hope things are working good for that. Isn't Propecia & Rogaine really work good in that area & maybe give you some more positive results? Have you seen any actually? Also when you did have thinning in your crown, did it work really quick, like in the matter of months or years or do you remember?

Sorry, I don't want to take over this thread but just wanted to know. Wish you guys both the best!
