Is This Hair Loss, Or A Whorl Or Cowlick?

I'm an 18 year old male with a full head of hair. Neither my parents nor their parents have experienced hair loss. I'm becoming slightly paranoid, and am wondering if this looks like something harmless like a cowlick or a whorl, or hair loss. What do you think?

Not even one of the four grandparents? Are you sure?

Yes, none of them. I can say that with one hundred percent certainty, since I knew each and every one of them for at least fourteen years and through my parents. And I'm also not experiencing the symptoms of hair loss. Perhaps it's naturally thin back there and/or the way my hairstyle is might be affecting it?

It looks like hair loss to me to be honest but that’s if your asking me. I would say yeah. Recheck your grandpas and make sure they are not wearing a hair system. With a lot of good maintenance those suckers can look real. For example a lot of actors. Just saying

I rechecked and still the same. My mother is now also saying that my hair has always been like that, and that she has not noticed a change in my hairline. I've also found that the sides and back of my hair are thinner than the tip, and these are not areas of hair you lose. Perhaps that accounts for the way it looks?

Might be due to harsh light and the color of your hair but it looks like crown thinning. I'd say its quite possible you're starting to lose some hair on top. How long have you been bleaching your hair for btw? You do realize that's the worst thing you could do to your scalp.

I'm not experiencing any symptoms of hair loss, though. And my mother says that my crown has always been thin.

Moms prolly just looking out for you.. I’m just saying if I saw your hair like that I would think your just beginning your journey. It’s not a fun one. But you will have to take that path. Sorry man. Beard tats and gym. Common advice you’ll hear from now on. By the way what symptoms are you not experiencing? The only the symptom of hair loss is hair loss. Thinning, receding, that sort. Aide affects are depersssion.

I'm not experiencing that symptom, that's the thing.

Anyways, I talked with a doctor and she said it's just a cowlick, and that the dyed hair and the way the light hits it is making it look worse than it actually is.

You're doctor is retarded. We aren't telling you your crown is thinning to make us feel better. We are doing to help you. If you don't care about going bald then lucky you, and let it go. If not I would get on finasteride or min.
Okay, firstly, don't get pissy. Again, if you're not, I'm sorry I said that, but it seems as though you are.

Secondly, you will excuse me if I trust trained professional that can manipulate my hair and looked over it for ten minutes before she made a conclusion over someone online.

Three, you will also excuse me if I forgot to mention that I'm not trusting just one source of information. The doctor did admit she is not an expert, so I took that and have scheduled an appointment with a dermatologist.

Why am I going to this length? Well, I'm not losing excess amounts of hair, which is main symptom of hair loss. In fact, from what ive seen, I wake up most days with no hairs to one hair on my pillow and only find about five of my hairs scattered about through the day, and maybe only lose two when I tug at my hair (after a whole day of doing that to test it). My hair is thick, strong, and is ridiculously resistant to force, so I am a little confused when it comes to this, which is why I seem to be denying everything. It just doesn't add up.

Yet, you are right. I don't mind losing my hair: I just want to know.

You don't mind losing your hair and you don't trust the people giving their opinion which is 99% better than a random doctor who doesn't specialize in hair loss? Why the f*** are you even on the forum then, you f*****g degenerate?

I'm tired of your worthless topic showing up in my notifications. You're asking if your hair is going downhill but disregard every opinion that says so. Cya in 1-3 years when you'll most likely also be making a topic about whether finasteride can restore your crown or not.

That looks like a typical cowlick to me. Trust your doctor. This forum is a toxic place with lots of clinically sick people. Only a few can be of real help (i know better, i’m a forum veteran). Don’t worry, take pics regularly and if you see any negative changes, get on finasteride or dutasteride and you will be fine (people here feed on made up side effects, so don’t even go there. Have a good one :)
Thanks, man. Someone who's not overly "world is ending". I most certainly will trust the doctor, but I'm still going to talk with a dermatologist to see what's really up. The whole reason I'm going through all this is because I'm not losing excess hair (actually think I'm losing less than average), so it's confusing. Either way, I'll need your advice.

There’s nothing confusing, really. I’ve been dealing with hair loss for years now and examined all kinds of hairlines and cowlicks due to my obsession, and trust me, i’ve seen the thickest heads of hair with cowlicks thinner than yours. Don’t let these loonies freak you out. Worst case scenario, it gets a little worse and you use the proven methods that can give you back the hair you want.
Perfect, thanks a lot man. Really comforting! Glad you stumbled across this.
