Stem Cell Research and Hair
Stem cell research is very much in the news these days. Most of the news and controversy is about embryonic stem cells. These are the cells found in the very earliest stage of the embryo (30 - 150 cells) before it becomes implanted in the uterine wall. Scientists believe that these cells are pluripotent (with the accent on the "i"). They are able to give rise to all the specialized cells and tissues of the body.
The information generated from this research has positive implications for people who are losing their hair. This research will also give hope to people with less urgent problems like terminal cancer, Alzheimer's disease, Parkinson’s disease, and spinal cord injury.
