Is this balding or mature hairline ?

Hello,

I am 21 and I am really feared by alopecia because of my father's side. Indeed, let me introduce my father's side :

- My great-grandfather was bald (I don't know how and when he began, but he was bald according to my father)
- My grandfather began to bald early. I don't know when, but he was something like NW2a/NW3 at age 25. He died with NW6-7.
- My dad began to bald at 18 with massive shed. At my age he had almost reached the NW2a. He is NW5a at 52.
- His brother is bald but he went bald lately. At age 30, I remember he was ok but now

Frightening isn't it ?
On my mother's side, they went bald but lately. My grandfather began around age 50. I don't remember my first uncle (unfortunately he died at 40... but at 30 he was ok) and the second one is something like 35-38 now and is not balding.

So that is my situation. I "don't care" (it would be not a disaster for me) to bald at 30, but I am 21...

PS : sorry for my English, I am French
Here are the pics (on black is my juvenile hairline) :

Right side : http://www.hostingpics.net/viewer.php? id=163015Rightside.jpg

Overall look (with widow peak) : http://www.hostingpics.net/viewer.php?i ... iwpeak.jpg

Crown (cowlick or balding ?) : http://www.hostingpics.net/viewer.php?i ... 6Crown.jpg

Juvenile hairline : http://www.hostingpics.net/viewer.php?i ... irline.jpg

I have this widow peak since I was born and it has not moved. But you can see the pattern hidden by some hairs on the 2 temples (1 cm/0.4 inch deep compared to my juvenile hairline : I know it because I can see a white patch).

Thanks for replying.

Thanks.
Do you think it is alopecia ?
Maybe I have overestimated my juvenile hairline by seeing my old pic (by judging the position of the corners (the thing in front of ears))

try checking for miniaturisation, look for smaller, thinner, lighter and just generally weaker hairs mixed in with your hairline, temples and crown.
you may find rows/lines of smaller hairs at the hairline, if you do or your unsure post pics of it maybe.

Hello,

Actually it is hard to say because I have natural thin hair (even on safe areas) and, as you can see, I used to be blond and have natural light reflects. I think I have some hairs on temples which probably fall to have a symmetric hairline (you can see the pattern on pics). I do not notice other thin hairs but it is hard to say. I do not over-shed hairs (I do not count, but I do not notice unusual hairloss).
On the pics, do I look like a NW2 or more ?
On my crown, I can't say.

I have an appointment with a derm this Saturday, but I hope that he will really check my hair. Because I have oftenly heard that some derm do not check very seriously your scalp.

Thanks

Yes maybe you're right. Even if my left side looks strong when I pull my hair, the right side looks strange and seems to start to go deeper. I notice it when my hair is dry but strangely not when it is wet.
I go to the derm tomorrow, so we will see...

But I know it is over for me and that my life will go to sh*t...

Thanks everybody

Like heck is it over for you ! Keep things in perspective. Your hair looks damn pretty good. The loss if any, is minimum.

Wait for the results of the derms appointment, stop freaking your self out.

Hello guys,

I visited the derm yesterday and he confirmed male pattern baldness (pull test) on temples and a little on crown (oh sh*t...). Even if I knew that I have male pattern baldness, after the official diagnosis, I cried a lot but my mind is OK now. It is too late, but there is no point to plunge into depression.

The derm prescribed me minoxidil 5% and a Shampoo for Seborrhoeic dermatitis.
I tried to convince him to give me Propecia, but I failed (he said : "We ususually prescribe the treatment with less side effects first". Ok guy, but if my hair situation become worse in one year, it would be too late...). I have an appointment with a hair specialist this week. I don't want another diagnosis because it's male pattern baldness, but a prescription for Propecia.

Do people have usually good results by using this combination ? If it stops balding on crown, it would be nice.

Hello,

I didn't expect that, but my generalist has prescribed me Propecia and Keto 2 % (1% version is not on the french market anymore), which means that I have the Big 3 now.
My regimen is :

- minoxidil 5 % twice a day on frontal hairline and around the swirl
- Propecia 1 mg once a day
- Keto 2 % twice a week
- Brewer's Yeast 3 pills a day
- Magnesium (B6) 2 pills a day

Do you know another vitamin ?
