Is This A Good Haircare Plan? Rogaine Then Propecia

Hi all,

Having realised I’m balding (have a look at my other thread to see the hairline pics)at 17, I’m trying to work out a plan to keep my hair. See what you think, and please tell me if it’s OK or what you would do differently.

I can’t get finasteride until I’m 18 in 3 months, so what I planned on using Rogaine until then on my hairline (which is the only bad bit - my hairline isn’t that bad, but is receeding, the hair behind is dense if not very thick individually). Then, after 3 months, I’d switch from Rogaine to just propecia. This is because I don’t need more hair - I just want to maintain what I have, and I don’t really want to use rogaine twice a day all my life.

However, will stopping rogaine after just 3 months make it pointless? Will I just shed hair twice? Also, my hair is quite long on top (down to eyes - 6”?) so that will affect my application.

Let me know what you think!

Thanks for the upload. Well, minoxidil does not decrease DHT, which means that even if you start using Rogaine, the natural process of balding will still occur. Therefore, in this case scenario, finasteride. would be your best option any route you decide to go, since you're looking to stop the balding. If finasteride. happens to maintain what you currently have, minoxidil could be added later on for further improvement/thickening.

I'm no doctor, but I would guess that yeah it would be pointless to take it for 3 months. You'll probably lose everything you started to gain with minoxidil. Who knows, some people report that minoxidil damages their hairlines, so it could even make your hair worse. But again I ain't no doctor so your best bet might be to talk to a competent expert. Or just wait out the 3 months.

Any more opinions? Could I not use minoxidil to restore some of the temples, where there are still fine hairs, and then eventually just use finasteride? Would these new hairs not be maintained with that?
