Is there any way to tell where a hairline will stop?

As the topic asks -- I'm almost 29, my hair is all right now, but there's recession and miniaturization up front and some thinning on the crown (only I can see it, and I can only see it when my hair is wet) -- is there any way to tell where it will end up? Debating finasteride/minoxidil, but don't want to dump chemicals into my body and on my head if it's not necessary, but I can't tell how bad this will get.

Would a dermatologist have any insight, or is it pretty much impossible to tell? I asked my barber, and he said his hair thinned (and he's clearly not bald), but this happened in his 40s. So I really have no idea what's going on. My dad is totally bald, everyone on my mom's side has thin hair and high hairlines but no bald spot on the crown.

Thanks!
