Yes. Male-pattern baldness gives young men a taste of mortality, and thus spurs them to make the most out of their brief lives. Neanderthals didn't have male-pattern baldness, and spent their days in carefree abandon, unaware of Death and the pathos of things. The didn't have the Faustian zeal that animated homo sapiens and allowed him to reshape the planet and build the modern world.
