Is there a best before date on finasteride?

Is there any? If I have pills that are a few years old are they still okay to take?

I am asking because I want to start micro dosing finasteride. Which means I will be taking 0.0625mg daily which is 1/16 of a pill.

Currently I have three more months on prescription. So if I get all three months that will last me 90*16= 1440 days/365= 3.94 years. Will the finasteride still be okay to take at this point? I will only crush up the tablets when I need to. And I will keep them in a cool, dark, dry place. Thanks for the replies!

Is there anything on the packaging indicating a use by date? Most medication should have some sort of expiration date.

The last batch I got (a month ago) have an expiry of October 2013, so I'd say they last somewhere around 2 years (a little less if mine were just manufactured).

How will you split them into 16ths? Are you going to grind them into powder and measure out each dose?

No my prescription bottle does not have any date on it.

First I will cut the pill in half. I will store one of the halves and the other half I will crush up. I will then split it into 8 equal piles which will equal 0.0625mg (if it is too hard to eyeball I will buy a scale). I will then take one of the doses, and store the rest in one of those pill calendar things (which have 7 slots for each day of the week).

I am doing this because I read a study which showed the effectiveness of finasteride at different doses. At around 0.0625 mg it inhibits about 50% of serum dht, and around the same level of scalp dht as 1mg. My thinking is it will almost be as effective as 1 mg (not quite but almost), with less sides. The first time I started taking propecia I was taking 0.25mg (which is virtually the same as 1mg) and I got brain fog and soft erections so hopefully the lower dose will eliminate these sides.
