is the connection between beard growth and hair loss an urban legend?

I've always heard that the rate at which your beard grows is correlated to the onset of MBP or the progression of MBP. Is this true, or just one of those urban myths?

All I would say is that my brother, who is much hairier than me and more able to grow a bear despite being 2 years younger, suffers from more aggressive male pattern baldness than I do.

there is a correlation but an extremely small one so its pretty much a myth

when I turned 17 that's when my beard starting growing heavily. its when hair started thinning on temple and crowns and slowly started receding.

My hair has thinned around the temples and front in the middle over the past year or so, some of the hairs on my "hairline" are beginning to feel all alone and I still can't grow a beard (I made an attempt because if you shave your head it's said you really want to draw focus downwards to your eyes or face rather than your big bald head but after about 2 months I had decent growth down the sides and on the chin but hardly anything on my cheeks and my tache was basically loads of long hairs with lots of space inbetween them. Since then I've been using no.1 clipper on facial hair to see if the cheeks ever grow in (facial hair doesn't all grow together at the same time) and there has been some more growth but I've many friends with lovely great beards and Cristiano Ronaldo's hairline) so if it's not a myth then I'm an exception to the rule.

I have little upper body hair and my beard is quite thin still at 29 and even has couple of bald spots (I tried once growing and shaved it because it looks like I'm a teenager just starting to grow).
