Is Rogaine foam once per day as effective as twice per day?

There seems to be mixed verdicts about this. Any hard figures supporting once per day? I like to put it on right before bed.

I've read a lot of topical minoxidil studies, and I know of only one early one which partially tested a once-per-day application regimen. In that study, once-per-day was somewhat less effective than twice-per-day, but that was with only 2% and 3% minoxidil solutions. I would expect there to be less of a difference when using a modern 5% solution, because even a single application of such a solution is probably more likely to saturate the scalp with minoxidil than the weaker solutions used in that old study.

My personal experience is yes. The amount of regrowth is directly correlated to how much I use - to a certain degree.

I only apply 1x/day but I use a double dose. The stuff dissolves onto your scalp and saturates - so the more you use, the more area of scalp that gets the benefit.

It's expensive stuff - but if $ isn't an issue I'd say slop that stuff on!

How long does it take to absorb and be effective? If I put it on after I shower and style my hair, there's a clump of "glued" hair sitting there.

What if I put it on as soon as I wake up, and after about an hour take a shower? Will this wash away any benefits?

I wouldn't take a shower until 4+ hours after application - longer if possible.

Also - for me, the foam definitely doesn't clump my hair, it dissolves right in. It's a bit like gel, it makes the hair a bit hard when it dries, but nothing unmanageable.

I couldn't figure out a good system for a morning app, so that's why I'm sticking with a double dose at night.

If I had to do a morning app I'd probably shower, style my hair, etc, and have a bottle at work and just apply it in the bathroom.

You'll get SOME, but not ALL of the benefits. An early study showed that topical minoxidil is absorbed faster at the very beginning, but then slows down after some time has gone by.

I feel minoxidil application once per day is good enough only if you are on finasteride at the same time.

As far as I know the study on patients were done when they were on minoxidil alone and required application twice a day as there was no DHT blocker working in sync.

Which means minoxidil has to be on the scalp for a longer time to counter the detrimental effects of DHT. However, if you add finasteride it blocks DHT and so minoxidil can do its work more efficiently, which means applyin it once should do the trick.

I'm only guessing here but hope it makes sense.

I dunno about the foam, but when i get lazy (especially in summers) and apply it only once, i'm suffering a shed 2 months later until i return to twice a day application and it recovers 3-4 months later. If you have good results with a regimen, don't change anything, that's my advice based on how it works for me.

I've been on .25mg finasteride for about 2.5 yrs now with great results. However I wanted to fill in what I lost in the crown area.

I've seen an improvement with 2x daily rog foam but was wondering if 1x is sufficient.

That doesn't make any sense to me.

minoxidil doesn't counter the detrimental effects of DHT, except in a very superficial sense.
