Is Rogaine Foam on its own enough?

Hi,

My hair has been thinning for the past year or so and I've researched all the possible medications that are currently out there. I quickly ruled out Propecia because I'm not willing to take the risk and be left with some of the side effects that are mentioned.

I have decided to give Rogaine Foam a go but the more research I do the more I come accross people recomending that Propecia and Rogaine should be used together.

I'm only willing to use Rogaine and as such I'm wondering if anybody else uses Rogaine on its own and if they've had positive results.

Positive results initially here but the progression of male pattern baldness eventually catches up and overtakes what Rogaine is growing for you. You really do need an antiandrogen to get the best out of it.

Yes I have crown loss and my Rogaine foam results have been poor as i wasn't using a proper anti-androgen. All you get is peach fuzz hair where you apply it after a while.

What anti-androgen would you recommend?

Apart from Propecia, are there any that work well without the possible side effects?

No, minoxidil is not enough on it's own. You need something that stops hair loss, plus minoxidil.

Actually, finasteride on it's own is more effective then minoxidil on it's own, but using both usually bring the best results.

Alternatives to finasteride is dutasteride but you don't want that, it's stronger and has more side effects, I think.

Talk to your doctor about finasteride alternatives and see what he/she comes up with. Good luck.
