Is Propecia Causing My Ed And Decreased Libido On Only 2 Pills A Week??

Hi,

I am a 27y/o male who started Propecia around a year ago. I only take 2 pills (1mg each) per week instead of 7mg a week (1 pill a day). The reason for this is because I did a DHT test before i took the drug and my doctor said that my DHT levels are naturally low and I don't need to take more than 2 pills per week.

It has been good for around a year now with losing around 100 hairs a day instead of 300-400! Maybe a slight regrowth but nevertheless I am happy with it.

Fast forward to around 1 week ago. I started suffering from Erectile dysfunction and decrease in my Libido and so far I have tried to make love to my girlfriend 4 times in the past week and my thing downstairs would not work! I tried to masturbate twice in this week to see if this would also be affected, however I am able to masturbate! I would say I get a 80-90% erection while masturbating and morning wood twice this week.

Is this ED? is it the Propecia causing it, Or is it my girlfriend?? Since it's been a week, what do you think I should do that might rule out other factors?

Thank you very much!

It is not Propecia. Maybe you need to see what is going on with your feelings for your gf.

It's the propecia. Come off it for couple weeks and watch your libido heighten.

Did you read the label of side effects? Im pretty sure libido and impotence are right there black and white. Id say your describing exactly what the warnings say. So yes id say it is.

He started a year ago and is taking two pills per week. He can masturbate just fine

So no, I am not kidding.
1) You can notice finasteride side effects at any point in time (excluding the first few hours): 2 weeks, 2 months, 2 years...
2) Taking two pills per week can still give you side effects
3) Even in sexually healthy men, it is usually easier to keep it up when masturbating than with a woman, especially for frequent masturbators.

Where did you read sexual side effects show up 2 years into taking Finasteride when they were not apparent before?

As a PFS sufferer I have spent hundreds of hours doing research and it appears that in general there are two kinds of ways guys get side effects:

1) Guy that are ok for the first 2 weeks and even experience an increase in libido etc which is then followed by a shutdown (the biggest group)
2) Guy that seem to be doing fine for the first months but than gradually lose sexual functioning over time till they are at a point where they can no longer deny that there is something wrong. And yes, I have seen numerious time that this point happens around two years or even later.

Do you believe in coincidence?

Someone just strarted this thread 11 minutes ago: https://www.hairlosstalk.com/intera...discontinued-finasteride.115119/#post-1684559

I think people's observations are usually not reliable. Just because they are taking a drug does not mean their sexual issues are due to that drug--sexual issues are extremely common especially during the hair loss age group and masturbation addict groups with or without Finasteride.

Also the OP said he just started having these issues mainly during the actual act after a year of taking the drug---this is NOT common nor should be automatically blamed on Finasteride.

Research has shown that men that have been on 5AR inhibitors are 5 times more likely to experience ED...

Thanks for your messages guys!

What is the solution here, just come off Propecia? What if I carry on with 2 pills a week, is there any situation where this problem will subside with time? I did have a rise in libido at the start (first 2 weeks or so) and that slowly started to fall. What do people in this situation normally do? Is stopping the pill the only solution to the problem?

Thank you!

Does this shutdown in libido eventually stabilise if one continues to take the pill??

No, your body is giving you a warning signal, you can choose to listen to it or to ignore it. But read the article above to see what the consequences of that can be.

Official propecia patent from Merck, last revised 09/2013

https://www.merck.com/product/usa/pi_circulars/p/propecia/propecia_ppi.pdf

The most common side effects of PROPECIA include:

- decrease in sex drive
- trouble getting or keeping an erection

The following have been reported in general use with PROPECIA:

- decrease in sex drive that continued after stopping the medication;
- difficulty in achieving an erection that continued after stopping the medication;

No 27yrs old spontaneously develop ED, specially ED that last, you should drop off finasteride a see if your condition improves

Good bye

I am beginning to wonder if this is really Erectyle dysfunction. My libido has certainly reduced. Yesterday however I was able to masturbate 3 times with close to a 100% erection while maintaining each one for 5-10 minutes and this morning I had morning wood. The problem only seems to happen when I want to make love to my Gf. It has been 5 times now. The most recent time was two days ago. Also it seems like I need physical stimulation most of the time to achieve an erection. Is this still propecia?

Thank you for all your input, I appreciate it!!
