Hello, I'm a 22 year old male and have came here from advise from the community. My girlfriend and local barber have told me my hair is nothing to worry about but I can't help but feel they are being 'too nice", you know?

In the picture attached I have dampened my hair and parted it at the back to show the extent of thinning which is occuring. Everywhere else apart from the crown area is thick and the scalp barely visible. Is this male pattern baldness?

Hi Louis. There does look like some slight thinning in crown area but that could be because you dampened your hair. Even still I don't think its noticebale. Have you get a pic without wetting your hair?

Hey, realize you are concerned about your hair, as we all are here. Being a bit older (39), and having started to lose when i was 19, from my observation, you dont look like you're balding or thinning at all to me- not even close. Yes you can see a bit of your scalp, but that's totally normal when your hair parts.

You remind me of my friend's scalp. He had similar hair to you, dense quantity of hair, and he still has the same hair as he did 18 years ago.

If you were balding you would see a lot more hair shedding/falling out. I was losing 150+ hairs a day, and could shake out 50+ just by sitting at my desk and running my hand through my hair over the course of 30-60 secs. You may have some associated itching too. I started by seeing my hairline thin out slightly, I thought it was strange at the time, but my hair was so thick it was only 6 months later when the shedding began that I realized that it may be hairloss.

I still have a good amount, though I have thinned out significantly since. do your best to not concern yourself, as worry tends to exacerbate the a nonexistent problem.

Thabks for your reply my friend, I know I havent reached the stage were my hair is shedding, id say i lose an average amount of hair per day; nothing unusual. Ive noticed through time (i cut my own hair) that my hair has gotten thinner around the crown region. If im not losing my hair, is it possible that i have gradual thinning which will lead to baldness? I just think its so unusual for me to be this thin at the crown area in comparison to most of my friends my age! I have to brush my hair a certain way to hide my scalp showing and im becoming more paranoid. I will post another picture of my hair dry. Thanks for your comment!

Hair looks thin on crown and your hairline is starting to go, as the posters above said, not really noticeable now but I'm guessing you'd like to keep it that way.

I agree with joey. Your hair is slowly diffusing all over. That how it can start for some people.

Do you think i should start treatment? Also im noticing lately my scalps become itchy all the time although i thought it was the shampoo i was using and i read on the forum its related to male pattern baldness?

I would go to a doctor who specializes in hair loss to confirm if you are in early stages of male pattern baldness. Your local barber would know if he has seen your hair losing density too. However, I am losing density and my barber keeps saying you still have alot of hair. But I know what is happening.

The only reason that im noticing thinning is ever since i decided to grow my hair out longer than usual. I usually get a zero fade on the sides and cut to a short length on top. Look at this picture of me two to three months ago when my hair was shorter. I dont think ive lost hair since then because ive been keeping a close eye on my pillow and in the shower etc.

I guess you are correct. Shorter looks better too.

Coming here will make you paranoid. Your hair looks fine to me, if you were balding you would know. When guys pass the age of 18/21 they develop a mature hairline, which is totally normal. Don't stress about it.

If you start to bald you will know it, I'm pretty sure that's not the case. Reassess in 6 months, there is no rush to act with all the treatments available.
