Is male pattern baldness striking people at younger ages?

I'm only 19, and baldness has already done a number on me. I'm still able to conceal it somewhat, but it's a great stress factor in my life, with thoughts like "why me, I'm too young for this." I'm starting to notice, though, that baldness has kind of swept my generation. In my friend group, I can notice that about half of the guys are starting to go thin (I don't think a few of them even realize it yet). And then there's the occasional dude around my age, who is thinned out to the point where I think he would be better off shaving it all. Have you guys noticed this, too? Maybe this mass youth balding would result in a great surge/demand for better, safer, more efficient treatments.

I've only noticed the 30+ crowd. The younger ones seem to be doing well from what I can see.

It's most likely a cognitive bias, you noticing it more for your age group because your looking for it while the unintentionally ignoring the many instances of young guys with perfect hair. It's also just chance too, some people are surrounded by people with great hair genes while other live in an area that happens to have a lot of balding men.

**** you, I'm bearly 20 and deep into it

You need to relax. I have seen very few younger guys with hair loss. There is one young guy on the train I suspect has signs of hair loss.

I never said young guys don't suffer from it I haven't noticed it much outside these forums.

Bingo. Before I started balding, I didn't even recognize signs of hair loss in men until all their hair was gone. Even then, I barely even thought twice about it. Now, I almost obsessively look at guys hair to see where they are at.

Exactly.

Why do you just suspect it? Is he sporting a combover or something?

Exactly.

It might be the style he is going for but it seems a bit sus to me. He shaves his side and back, he leaves hair on top only but not in a Mohawk way much wider and not as long or spiked. If he was to grow out his side and back it wouldn't surprise me if he showed temple recession or frontal recession.

Definitely sounds like a classic hairloss cover up style. Some European football (soccer) player has a similar style and I saw an interview where the press questioned him about it. Obviously it isn't fooling anyone, rven people who don't normally notice that sort of thing.

You're probably thinking of Raul Meireles.

He also wears a hat, but gangsta style. It makes me a bit more suspicious.

Yep that's the guy. Is that the kind of style you are talking about? Except I'm guessing with a little more on top?

Similar. He seems to have good density on top. I can't see any hair on his side and back. He seems to always shave the sides and back.

The top is clipped to a #3 or #4.

It looks like he maybe receding from the front.

My hairline started to recede in my early twenties. Thankfully, it didn't progress much in the fifteen years since- I'm 37. I could always hide it easily. It isn't until recently that I noticed my crown thinning, and decided to do something about it.

^It's not actually recession or hairloss, quite a few kids have high hairlines naturally. Which is good for those of us who can maintain a NW2/3.
