Is "maintaining" Even A Relevant Concept Anymore

It used to be common to try to "maintain" hair because it was thought that your follicles would die, and couldn't be reawakened. As far as we know now, this isn't true. There have been many reports of people with aggressive regimens growing hair in completely "bald" areas. Is there any downside to just letting it go and waiting for the cure?

Yeah that or wounding. My mindset regarding my hair might be different from some people's, but going bald wouldn't be as bad if I knew that I could regain it in the future. I think as far as we know, that potential is there, we just don't have the means to unlock it yet. I'm not going to become a girl when I could have just gone bald and then gotten it back in a few years. But there's still a part of me that instinctively thinks "do what you can right now." I'm sure going bald will be far more difficult than I could imagine, but at least, if it can be cured, it's not a death sentence, I'd stick around to see it fixed even if I had to suffer to get there. I just wish we had that confirmation

There was a similar topic 2003 on this forum. Also while follicles generally survive maybe a decade after they turn invisible and sometimes many decades, they eventually become damaged beyond repair. Tsuji might solve this by generating new hair but I wouldn't (literally) bet my life on it.

@Dante92 and @paxis, what treatments have you tried? I'm in the scary phase after just starting finasteride and always interested in the experience of other ppl.

Btw. guys I'm not trying to spread bad mood. My hairloss is also quite aggressive as you can see in my signature. Estrogen gel is on the way. I rather turn MtF than go bald.

And of course super hopeful to Tsuji.

Unfortunately I do not think that wounding is as effective as chemical castration via powerful anti-androgens.
At the moment it seems that only CA (Androcur) orally can almost guarantee to really maintain (finasteride doesn't work on all of us), but - as the leaflet instructs - you get chemically castrated. I would not want to do it.

Currently Finasteride 1mg ed, liquidi minoxidil (dropped due to sebhorreic dermatitis) and currently foam minoxidil.

sorry for my incompetence, but what is "ed" ? Erectile dysfunction comes to mind, I don't want that treatment

When I started the treatments I hoped to get some regrowth, then to mantain what I had, but now I'm simply hoping for slowing it down, and that's not gonna happen anyway. Not responding to treatments absolutely sucks, especially when you get sides.

So much feels bro. I still remember the day going to the dermatologist for the first time to get a prescription for Propecia, I naively thought "how great I'm now gonna maintain my hair, maybe even improve it!", well jokes on me.

Long term maintenance... I'd take that. Got 3 and a half years above baseline so far so I guess I'm in the lucky majority. Just buying time, nobody knows when it'll stop working, if it works at all. Replicel sounds like it might give real long term maintenance if combined with finasteride

I still remember when I went to my dermatologist for the first time , told me “you re gonna be bold but you are not the only one”(punch in the face?). “I’m gonna prescribe you a 3mo cure of finasteride”(WTF?). It’s actually sad to know some people follow this kind of prescription and then after months stop then shave their head later. GJ dermatologist, that sure maintains a lot.

finasteride for some weeks, got sides and stopped (still have those sides, but way less). Found out months later that it wasnt caused by finasteride. Also it wouldnt have stayed so long with only some weeks of finasteride. I am back on track now and use it 2 times a week 1mg. Why? Google "Desmond finasteride story". Only doing it for a month or so now. Also did minoxidil liquid back then also stopped cause sides. I started that again when I started with finasteride. Applied too much minoxidil back then.. Use it 1 time a day now. Pretty dumb history I know.. I also use ket+alcohol (softasept) 3-4 a week for 30-90 minutes. For many months now. You should know it from pilos anyway. Don't see noticable results hairloss wise till now, maybe slowed down a bit. But better feeling in the head.

Was also doing other stuff(RU, castor oil oral tolical, flaxseeds...) here an then, but I was never really consistent will all the treatments, now I am trying to do so at least for 6 months.

Sorry for the sloppy answer, I am quite busy right now.

Hahahhahah... Wat... Really funny dermatologist. Did he/she actually use the word "cure" describing finasteride ?
About the 3 months, over here dermatologists can prescribe up to 4 months each time, but my dermatologist didn't even know that and thought she can only prescribe for 3 months each time.
So your dermatologist did not even tell you that you need to keep taking it for it to work and not just 3 months? Hilarious...
