Is It Worth Using Nizoral If I Dont Want To Use Minoxidil?

I think I am a Norwood Scale 3 and I am about to start taking finasteride (Propecia).

I didn't want to use Minoxidil because of the stories of shedding before it starts to work and possible shedding if you ever stop.

Reading about Anti-Inflammatories on this site and it seems like a good extra step to take.

I have Nizoral is it worth using this or should I buy Regenepure DR?

I was going to use Nizoral / Regenepure DR 3 days a week - is this right or is it not worth doing if I am not using any growth stimulant (Minoxidil)?

I wanted to also ask if its ok to put on conditioner straight after the Nizoral?

I put the Nizoral on for 2-3 minutes and then wash out, after that I have been using conditioner - will this affect the Nizoral's effect?

Also can any one can recommend any good conditioners?

I really really really like the Regenepure DR shampoo. If you don't mind spending a lot on a conditioner too you should definitely buy Regenepure NT. It keeps your scalp in good condition. I can't use any ketoconazole shampoo without a good conditioner, it dries out my scalp badly.
It probably won't do much in terms of stopping hair loss or regrowing any hair.

And just so you know, you will probably shed on finasteride too.

Thanks for your response Vesemirm, I'll look into the costs of Regenepure shampoo and conditioner.

Do you think think ketoconazole shampoos dont help with hair loss? I thought it helped with Inflammation which I read was present in every hair loss sufferer? Apologise if that's not what you meant.

Yea I feel like I am damned if I do and damned if I don't with this hair loss. If you are on finasteride did you shed? if you did do you remember for how long?

I don't lose hair - well everyone does, but what I mean is I don't have lots of hair on my pillow or in the shower. My hair loss is more thinning and you can start to see my scalp now (especially when wet). Shedding terrifies me because it could make it a lot worse.

Do I just go on finasteride and if I do shed how long should I stay on it before it settles? or is this different from person to person?

Inflammation probably comes from hairs that are shedding. Ketoconazole helps with the itch but only temporary. It won't stop you from balding but it works to a small degree I guess.

I'm currently in my 7th month on finasteride. I did shed a lot, moth 3 & 4. Nobody can tell how your body will react to finasteride. Some people shed, some people don't.

Finasteride just speeds up the progress of the hairs that were meant to be shed anyways. It sort of synchronizes your hairs. After you've shed them they will grow back stronger/thicker. And even then they can shed again so they can grow back even thicker/stronger.

Maybe post some pictures so we get an idea of your situation.

I don't have an itchy scalp do you think its not worth using Ketoconazole then? I just though if you have a few treatments going on they might all help.

Hows your treatment working out for you? 7 months is good - what made you finally say yes I am using finasteride and what mg are you on (0.5mg . 1 mg)?

A lot of people are saying I should start on 0.5mg and judge the side effects from there - although I am assuming regardless of how much I take it will shed the same?

In the pictures I have uploaded I have brushed my hair to show the bad areas and it is directly under a light. To be honest even these pictures shocked me to how bad it was because it doesn't seem that bad normally. Let me know your thoughts and if finasteride or any other treatments can help.

Don't waste your time on Nizerol alone. Sorry to say this, but it's true.

It has to be the Prescription amount, and it's debated if it will help you.

Also, OVER Washing hair will make you appear BALDER. It will TEMPORARILY cause
you to lose hair (conditioner won't, but any shampoo will do this. Even mild ones can).

Hi rclark, thanks for your reply.

Yes I agree shampoo / over washing hair isnt great. Currently I use shampoo twice a week and was going to go to 3 times a week with Nizerol.

Sounds like its best to stay off the Ketoconazole then.

Wasn't saying that.

That said, you are washing the normal frequency. Your baldness is VERY AGRESSIVE
(as you already know). I thought you were washing everyday, to be honest.

It's better to add an anti DHT agent, like Finasteride and Minoxidil.

Treatment is working out fine for me. Before I would lose a lot of hair on a daily basis, I would see hair everywhere. I was so done with seeing my hair get worse every day So I said; I'm gonna give it one shot to treat this sh*tty situation and if it doesn't work I'm not gonna stress over it anymore.

A lot of people are saying I should start on 0.5mg and judge the side effects from there - although I am assuming regardless of how much I take it will shed the same?

I had a talk with a very good dermatologist, he is using finaseteride for hair loss himself. He prescribed me 5mg tabs and told me to use 1/4th daily. So that's 1.25mg. Consistency is key, I think I only missed one day in the past 6,5 months.

In the pictures I have uploaded I have brushed my hair to show the bad areas and it is directly under a light. To be honest even these pictures shocked me to how bad it was because it doesn't seem that bad normally. Let me know your thoughts and if finasteride or any other treatments can help.

Well, I would be lying if I said your hair looks good. Now that I've seen these pictures I'm thinking you should start treatment ASAP tbh.
