Is it possible when you're destined to be a Norwood 5 at the end to keep your hair your whole life?

I have an obession...

I'm 20 years old and I have awesome thick, dark and curly hair. It's kind of long since a few years and no one knows me without my curls. It's just a part of my identity.
A few years ago I found out that male pattern baldness was genetic. I was shocked... Because:

My dad start going bald in his early 20's
My mothers dad started going bald in his late 20's

In other words: I'M SCREWED!

Since then, there hasn't been a single day in my life that I didn't think about losing my precious hair

Acception is not an option for me, I would do ANYTHING Telogen Effluvium keep my hair like the way it is for at very least till I'm 30.

That's why I need your advice.
Till this day I think there are no big signs male pattern baldness had kicked in. I check my hairline once in the two days and I haven't seen any big changes. Allthough I must say that one day I think I see something but then the other day it's good again.





If I will get the same genes as my dad or my mum's dad I'm destined to become a Norwood 5.
That brings me back to my main question:
IF I respond really well to THE BIG 3 in the future and even start taking them BEFORE I have any signs of male pattern baldness (just to maintain, I heard that the earlier you start, the better the result) and IF money is not a issue (hair transplants...) will I then be able to for an example:
1: Keep a Norwood 1, Norwood 1,5 till I am 30.
2: Keep a Norwood 2 till I am 35-40
3: And then be able to maintain this for the rest of my life?
About the money: it's not that I'm like a really rich guy (and so isn't my family) but I am definitely not poor either . It's just that my hair is VERY important and if needed I am willing to spend a lot of money keeping it.

Interesting question. And obviously everyone on here thinks their hair is "VERY important", or they wouldn't be here. :shakehead:

Seriously, no one can answer that, but with the Big 3 it's likely that hair loss could be aborted for a significant time if treatment is implemented prior to symptoms. Kind of like women who get a mastectomy before they actually have breast cancer (based on inherited risk factors). YIKES! :sobbing:

In the future with genetic coding and new treatments, people should be able to find out if they carry the gene and other factors and make an educated decision.

It is also possible that the genes that trigger hairloss could be turned "off" in the future.

We will live to see a day where there are revolutionary advances in hairloss. Think about guys going bald in 1960. They had nothing until the late 80s, mid 90s. We have something at least, though it doesn't work in everyone and not to the extent that we want when it does.

The only problem is we might all be too old by that point, but rest assured we'll be happy if ours can be reversed and for all the people who never have to suffer through it.

Thanks for the reply guys but talking about what the future technology will bring us isn't really an answer to my question. In the comming 10 years I don't think a good new product will come on the market to fight against male pattern baldness. I only see the ones that we allready have become cheaper and cheaper.
My question is more based on those products (finasteride, minoxidil hair transplant's)

Anything is possible. Like the possibility that you might not have the balding gene at all. No one can tell for certain what the future may hold in terms of treatments. However, rest assured that there will be improvements just no certainty as to when. My advice is to not worry about it until you see signs of baldness then jump on the meds and save hair transplant for last option. Meds can buy you some time but once you start hair transplant's you'll be forever chasing your balding hair.

To answer your question, it impossible to tell, too many variables. All I can say is that if you jump on the big 3 at the first sign of hair loss you should be able to keep most of your hair for a long time unless you have a very aggressive case of male pattern baldness. So don't stress it!
