Is It Possible To Tell Hair That's Shedding From Hair That's Falling?

Hi guys,

I'm new to this forum, and this is my first post! I've found the discussions here to be really enlightening and helpful in answering a lot of questions I have. I'm 25, NW2 and my hair line has been receding since I was 23.

I recently (maybe 3 weeks ago) started on Rogaine Minoxidil foam. I have been losing hairs at a rapid rate for the last week, however. I know that Minoxidil is supposed to induce shedding, so I am hopeful that this is what I am experiencing.

My question is (or rather are..): Is it possible to tell which hairs are being lost as opposed to which are being shed? Do hairs which are lost look different to those which are shed? Do shedding hairs have a bulb on the end?

Those two are the same thing.

I think what you mean is if you can tell which hair will return with the same thickness and which will return even thinner. I don't think it's possible.
Some hairs have that bulb at the end, others don't. I have no idea if you can conclude anything from that.

In the long run, I would say that losing thick terminal hairs is always a bad sign.
