Im 17. My hair seems to be thinnning at the crown and my scalp is visible under direct light or even outdoors. My hair also falls out whenever I rub my hair (I can count over 30 strands that have fallen if I keep rubbing). I have no apparent receeding hairline.

Heres an image of my hair. The room is lit by sunlight.

Could this be male pattern baldness? Or is it something else? Or is this just normal?

maybe we need frontal and side images with your hair pulled back to get a better idea.

yea probably looks like male pattern baldness. You can wait, or you can see a hair transplant doctor about starting medications. Hair transplant doctors will be better when it comes to hair loss, spotting it early, and prescribing treatment. They will be far more knowledgeable than regular derms.

How long do you estimate that I go bald and the fact that I have male pattern baldness becomes very apparant to others. My hair looks normal at a glance, people often say my hair looks good. Its just the crown that has been thinning and makes my scalp visible but only under harsh lighting.

Just go to a derm and get it diagnosed. There are very obvious cases of male pattern baldness, yours is not.

I had visited a derm sometime last week, she said it was all due to dandruff but she didnt even bother to take a look at my hair.
If it really is male pattern baldness, I just wanna know how long does it usually take for people to start noticing?

Then go to another derm. I got mine checked at a hair clinic and the doctor starred at my scalp for about 5 minutes repeating: "hmm, interesting"..."definitely male pattern baldness"... "there's a bit of recession here"... "thinning over this area"... I almost choked on my own vomit while coming out from denial. Better make sure man.

It seems like male pattern baldness mixed with retrograde alopecia. You need to start with the big 3 asap to slow down the progress.

Is a close family member of yours bald or balding? If so, you could ask them about it and see when they began balding. I've started to notice thinning on my crown at 15 and I inherited it from my mother's dickhead of a dad.
Best of luck and I hope it's nothing too serious man. :)
