Is is unrealistic to expect to keep my current hairline?

Hi all,

About me: I am 25 years old, with thick long curly hair. Except for some minor recesion I would not say that I am balding (yet) but take a look at my family:

Dad: Norwood 2,5 at the age of 25. Now 56 with a Norwood

Paternal grandfather: Norwood 1,5 at the age of 25. Norwood 2,5 at the age of 50 which he kept tell his passing at the age of 78.

Maternal grandfather Norwood 2 at the age of 25. Norwood 4 at the age of 50. Norwood 5 when he died at the age of 92.

:shakehead:

I have been aware of the genetics behind baldness for quite some time now and have been extremely afraid to lose my hair ever since. I always had a hairline that kind of looks like a receiding hairline since the day I started caring about hair (which was around the age of 12-13). I would say that one side is a Norwood 2 and the other is a Norwood 1,5 and again, it has been like that since I can remember. Fortunately I am blessed with thick curly hair which I keep long (just below the shoulders most of the time) so I can cover up my hairline quite well. I would not consider myself as more vain than the average man when it comes to clothing or taking care of my body for example, but when it comes to hair I can't think of any of my friends that put more time and energy into their hair than me (partially because of my obsession with male pattern baldness).

In a few months I plan on beginning with finasteride. I don't lose more hair than usual in the shower or anything I only feel that my hairline has thinned a tiny tiny bit (not visible for anyone but me probably) and that is why I want to take action because keeping my long hair is extremely important to me (and kicking it as early as possible is key, right?). It feels bad to mention this on a forum with mainly balding guys but I get many compliments on my hair and was even asked to be a (hair)model by one of Belgium's most famous barbers when I got my haircut. Again, I can cover up my bad hairline quite well but if it would get any worse than my current status I will probably not be able to keep my hair long without looking quite weird... Especially since the hair on the back of my head is EXTREMELY THICK (too thick even).

Now I am wondering, by looking at my family history regarding male pattern baldness... is there a chance that I can keep my current hairstatus for let's say the next 15 years with help of finasteride and maybe an additional hairtransplant or is this by any means not realistic? I would do anything to keep my long hair so taking a pill everyday and potentially spend a lot of money on a good hair transplant are no problem for me. I can maybe post some pictures later if this can give you guys a better image of my situation.

Thanks a lot guys!:)

Yes if you use those two options I would say your chances are very good. You have started to keep your hair early so you are ahead of the game.
