hi,

i'm a 39-yr-old Chinese and i've always had thick hair but for the last 6 months (around the time i started taking chromium ) i've suffered sudden hair loss and i've read that chromium intake or hypothyroidism could be a cause....so hoping the experts here can give me a clue......both my parents have no hair loss problems until well into their late 60's......as for my hair loss......

1) receding hairline across the forehead only.......WITHOUT hair loss around the temples.....

2) hair volume on top of my head has become thinner.........

3) the hair strands has also become thinner...........

as for shedding of my hair.........

a) most of the shedding is when i shampoo my hair (around 30-40 strands)

b) when i come my wet hair, there's NO shedding

c) when my hair is dry, i might shed a few strands over the day

d) there's NO shedding when i'm asleep since no hair on pillow in the morning

i've some hypothyroid symptoms like outer 1/3 of my eyebrows are almost gone and i tend to feel cold more easily compared to the past.

### since testosterone levels are lower as a guy ages.......does that mean less testosterone = more DHT........resulting in hair loss ?

### and is DHT on the scalp or in the scalp ?

many thanks in advance !

If it's only on the top then it's most likely Androgenetic Alopecia, I have some symptoms of hypothyroidism too but blood results weren't conclusive at all.

what is Androgenetic Alopecia, may i ask ?

so i reckon the DHT is within the scalp and not on it ?

Androgenetic Alopecia (Androgenic Alopecia : Male Pattern Baldness)

What he means by "if it's on the top" is that if your hair is thinning on the top (or/and temples), it is most likely to be Androgenetic Alopecia (Male Pattern Baldness). Cheers

many thanks,

so you mean to say becoz it's male pattern baldness............my hair loss is not caused by hypothyroidism even though i've some symptoms of it ?

I am no expert and can not tell you for sure if your hair loss is due to your thyroid problem or not. I was just trying to explain what resu meant by 'thinning on the top' as you seemed confused a bit. I suggest you go see a doctor. Good luck!

Thyroid related hair loss is different from male pattern baldness, it looks like steel wool.
