To the best of my knowledge, there is no research looking at particular hormonal correlations with the diffuse thinning, crown thinning, and receding hairline/temples population. If they have different causes, we can't know.

But I think it's robustly known that the crown responds very well to minoxidil and finasteride relative to the temples/hairline, which respond less well, suggesting a different mechanism.

Diffuse thinning is what you see in women a lot more. To me, that suggests a different cause. Far more women than men have diffuse thinning rather than receding temples/hairline/crown.

Diffuse thinning becomes more common in people over 40 as the hair diameter gets thinner and you are transitioning into gray hair as well. David, you got me watching those videos from Doctor testosterone and don't know why he called gray hair, vellus hairs. Terminal hairs can be gray too. Interesting on what he thinks about no fap. I have Hashimoto's thyroiditis so I don't know if that contributes to my diffuse thinning too.
