Is DHT the only enemy or should we worry about other male hormones too?

Simple question. It's known for many years that DHT (or rather or follicles' sensitivity to DHT) makes us go bald. But there are still plenty of people that keep losing hair, even when they're on finasteride or dutasteride. Is it the minimal amount of DHT that still floats around that causes this? Or is it simply because our follicles are sensitive to other hormones too? I know the whole 'DHT is the worst, but testosterone makes us go bald too' line has been shouted quite often these last years, but is there any scientific backup to these claims?

It is mostly DHT, but in my opinion, Testosterone can contribute a small amount for people with very androgen-sensitive follicles. Testosterone is much weaker than DHT though. DHT has about five times greater affinity for the androgen receptor than testosterone, and has about 30 times greater affinity than adrenal androgens.

We mustn't rule out the possibility that DHT from the 5-AR type 1 enzyme, which Finasteride does not block, could play a minor role in male pattern baldness. There is no doubt, however, that the DHT from the type 2 enzyme is by far the biggest culprit.

there is some new approach of other causes for hairloss,

and yes - ofcourse DHT its not the only cause,
theres almost never an - 'only causer',

not sure about other hormones but right now they are talking about inflammation causing agents and stuff like that..

inflammation / weak immune sys / general health - all related to hairloss

If we could just shield the follicle like some sort of force field around it then everything would be back.......>CB0301

Not only enemy is DHT. All of androgen hormones are harmful for hair follicules. But the most harmful androgen hormone is DHT for hair. Second harmful androgen hormone is Free Testosterone for hair.

The damage done to your follicle is minimalised when DHT is inhibited by finasteride or dutasteride BUT the damage is still their waiting to be cleared out by advanced science which seems to ignore its plea.......Why the hell do we still use minoxidil finasteride and keto. Its time for a change man its been 20 YEARS NOW

I would disagree with the opinion that all androgens are harmful to the hair follicles. It is really only DHT that does the damage, although testosterone could perhaps contribute a small amount for people with very sensitive follicles. I highly doubt that adrenal androgens play any part in male pattern baldness, as they are so weak compared to DHT (30 times weaker affinity for the androgen receptors). As long as DHT itself can be stopped from binding to the androgen receptors on your follicles, the balding process will be stopped dead in its tracks for almost all male pattern baldness sufferers.

Well, finasteride and especially dutasteride can be an effective cure for a large number of users. dutasteride has completely cured my hair loss up till now, and I have had no side-effects from the drug. I anticipate it is likely to stop my hair loss indefinitely for as long as I use it. If it wasn't for the potential side-effects of dutasteride as well as the concerns over 5-AR type 1 inhibition, the drug would indeed be "the cure" for a vast majority of us.

However, you are right that there has not been much progress made since 5-AR inhibitors came about, and it is indeed time now for a safer alternative to be available. CB-03-01 might well turn out to be this safer alternative.

Anything that would stop my goatee coming up here is in no way a cure for me.A cure would be when we could STILL grow hair while DHT is still present in scalp but the genes or cells or whatever it is, is still unaffected by it and we still have sucessful regrowth everywhere......

Yes, I agree. But the point I was making is that Dutasteride can "effectively" be a cure for those users such as myself who do not suffer any side-effects. CB-03-01 will hopefully turn out to be the "ultimate cure" for this disease.
