Is DHT necessary for adult male?

I've done some research on DHT. Most articles only stress the importance of DHT during fetus to puberty phases that it's an important hormone for male characteristics development.

What about adults after all male characteristics have fully developed?
What's the use of DHT which still strongly remains throughout men life? My guess is that there must be some uses of it otherwise the body wouldn't produce it anymore after puberty ends.
If Finasteride gets rid of about 70% of DHT in men, which is quite a huge figure, wouldn't that cause tremendous chain reaction inside the body (if DHT is still necessary)?

I'm asking because I'm considering taking Finasteride.
Please keep this thread civilized and bias-free as much as possible.
Thanks!

A tremendous chain reaction inside the body

We have all read and seen there can be side effects.
A tremendous chain reaction is a bit of an exaggerated description of those, though.

One thing to keep in mind is that Finasteride's mechanism of action is to inhibit 5-alpha reductase (primarily types 2 and 3), which in turn lowers DHT. The inhibition of 5ar itself almost certainly has a role in some of finasteride's side effects beyond lowering DHT, as it is also responsible for neurosteroid production (ie conversion of progesterone to allopregnanolone).
