I have been having large visible areas on the scalp top of the head for many years. I tried minoxidil 5% but stopped as I got a lot of dandruff which affected the skin on my face as well. Lately I have been reading about Finasteride. If anyone has been on it, please feedback please. I also read that one of its side effect is increase in breast size. This is a desirable side effect for me:laugh:, as my bust size never increased after puberty. It is still at barely A+ size. So I think I can hit 2 birds with 1 stone if it works for me :). I have 1 kid and I don't plan on having any more. So I'm not concerned about the side effects which can affect pregnancy.
Eagerly awaiting your responses:tongue:

All I know is that finasteride is only used by men. It's not advised for women, something with complications in pregnancy, besides that I dont know why women cant use it.

Female using Finesteride

I started Finesteride last week for androgenic alopecia. Dermatologist saidI had to take it for one year. Can cause birth defects (hermaphroditism), but I am post menopause.

Finesteride should not be use by pregnant women as it can affect their pregnancy. Try to look for alternatives.

Try topical finasteride

Hello!! You can try topical finasteride instead. It has worked on some men just as oral finasteride, although it is still not FDA approved and its side effects are unknown.
If minoxidil gave you discomfort, you can try a solution that is free from propylene glycol, as it is usually this component and not the minoxidil itself that causes the scalp to be itchy and uncomfortable.
I've found that MinoxidilMax has these products, but I haven't tried them yet.

Hi :)
I have read that topical finasteride works as good as oral one. But : it still goes systemic. What I don't know is if the side effects are as harsh as oral finasteride.
I guess it depends on the dose. I don't know neither if the same dose is required on men and on women given that we have much less androgens in most cases (my DHT and testosterone are in the lower norms but still I'm shedding like no tomorrow).
We have a couple alternatives we can use safely but they are generally called "weak anti androgens" : Nizoral with 2% Ketonazone (meant to cure DS but actually helping with Androgenetic Alopecia inflammation and androgens), topcal Alfastradiol cream (known as Pantostin), or Progestogel (progesterone cream), or Spironolactone.

I also read that one of its side effect is increase in breast size.

OMG hahaha where have you read that ? I'm an European C cup but wouldn't even mind it neither.

Wish this was more recent Parisienne,
maybe you'll find it helpful? https://www.minoxidilmax.com/topical-finasteride-does-it-work

Thank you very much I.D WALKER ! (Btw I see on your regimen that your only AA is nizoral, would you say it's strong enough ?)

Sigh, I don't get why the damn roaccutane is prescribed for women when the dangers for foetuses are at least as horrible as with finasteride. Authorizing a well controlled use of finasteride in women would be so much better.

Parisienne you are very welcome. finasteride. and min. have not helped my Androgenetic Alopecia.
I wanted to order online dutasteride. this month, however I'm unsure which generic brand can be trusted (legitimate). Any insight would be wonderful.
I agree with your last mentioned frustrations; any medication which puts a fetuses' health in peril probably should be avoided.

I'm not familiar with this medication you speak of, nevertheless I do agree that anything that puts an unborn fetus' health in peril should be avoided.
