you remember that study done awhile ago where rats were fed just enough calories to keep them alive, and they found the rats lived 40% longer than those fed normally?

welll apparently you can get the same effect by taking a day or two off food a week... a group of rats fed intermittently (who consumed the same amount of calories over the period of study as the ones fed normally) had a similar increase in lifespan as the starved ones.

and apparently theres nothing wrong with skipping meals.

did you read it mate?

the rats that were intermittently fasting gained just as much weight as the ones who got to eat all the time. the only ones who lost weight were the calorie restricted rats. The IF rats and the normal rats eat the same amount of food, as the IF rats eat twice as much on their eating days.

the IF rats got all the benefits of the calorie restricted rats, without losing weight.

I only read the first few paragraphs. At 12AM, my reading comprehension is about 0. :)

Before reading it, my questions are:
1. How can you gain weight by not eating for 2 days per week?
2. How much of the weight was fat and how much was muscle. Not eating = body thinks it's starving, so it stores lots more fat.

good questions.

1. I dont know, all i can see is the results of the study which show that exact thing happening.
2. i think that would depend on how much exercise you do wouldnt it? And the kind of food you eat, as per normal.

if you think about it, this would probably mimick the way our bodies evolved to receive food.

i just thought it was a really interesting result from an interesting study.
