yeah, I've read that before too, but I wish Merck or someone would make an official study. I'm about to start finasteride myself now, and considering how long it takes to see results, I'm not really willing to experiment or I'll never know if it's working or not, or why it isn't.

First of all, sorry everyone for a repeat post, I'll be more careful when posting next time.

Jay, I really doubt that Merck would support a study for this. It'll be a marketing disaster if people start cutting/dissolving up the 5mg proscar into little 0.2mg portions. Some already do anyway. These studies cost money. Nobody (but the consumer) has any economic incentives to finance an official study on 0.2mg finesteride. That's my take on it anyway.

UPenn ? Department of Physics and Astronomy ? :) The study has been done in Japan .. someone from UPenn has just copied an hosted it. :D

EDIT: I was wrong, this is the Sherman/Frankel study (which haven't been conducted at Upenn either :p )

Do you think the side effects would be much different at the lower dose?

That would be great, but if .2mg of finasteride offers the same effective DHT protection as 1mg then I doubt taking a smaller amount would lessen the side effects.

Anyone have a diagram for cutting my proscar fills into 25 pieces? I figure my 90 day supply is now a lifetime supply.

how do you guys feel about the whole lowering of the dosage or skipping a few days now and again so that your body will not become tolerate to the drug, and have it be less effective down the road?

Sherman Frankel (it's one person, Bis) is a professor emeritus at Penn. His research focuses on carrying his knowledge of physics into new medicines, hence his study on finasteride in 1998. Here's his Web site: http://dept.physics.upenn.edu/facultyinfo/frankel.html

I think that's a bad idea. There's not a shred of evidence that finasteride fails to continue to lower DHT, as long as you continue to take it.

I agree with Bry-Bry. Finasteride works as long as you take it.
