Interesting Case, How To Know For Sure ??

Hi guys,

Im currently experiencing hair loss for the first time Im 22 years old, student and my family history with baldness is none on my mothers side and my dad still has good hair for 60 no obvious bald spots but thinning and my Grandad eventually went bald in his 30 or 40s I think. At first I really couldnt tell if my hair was thinning cause I had such long hair at the time I said surely not, so I got it cut and it was still there on my hair line, I could see it thinning out. So I had a massive panic attack, as to what was causing this and I said please no, not to me and so fast, out of nowhere too.
I first saw the doctor and he said I had good hair and nothing to worry about but I just couldnt beleive him cause I knew my hair was different, so I later saw a specialist and they confirmed I was losing my hair.
So then I was really like no, I felt a bit depressed to be honest, I seem to be the only one in my family out of 18 cousins about half guys who is starting to go bald. I kept thinking to myself just surely not.
Anyway the specialist gave me some tools to help stop the thinning.
They gave me a Nioxin kit and CIT rollers to help. Later that day I thought it would be best to tell my parents, to find out what was happening. And they also said surely not as Dad confirmed he didnt start thinning until his early 30s and same with his father.
Anyway I carried on with the programm the specialist gave me. Daily washes, shampoo and conditioner, then CIT roller with different mm needles. I quickly found out that at the start the Nioxin was working I found no hair loss in the shower at all, no strains lost for the first 3 showers, however the aftereffects of shampooing daily caught up to me and I had no idea it could effect hair loss.
So now I had a dry scalp which ramped things up and I also had a very itchy head, I lost about 30 strains per day in the shower until I said this isnt right, the specialist must have this wrong.

At around this time I got a facetime from my mother who was over in Europe at the time and she was with none other than my twin brother I completely forget about him when this ordeal started and I didn't want to tell him because of the embarrassment but mum had told him, so as soon as he got talking he said hows the hair loss and I was like oh f*** mum. But I played it cool like it wasnt too bad and I asked him if he was losing any and well he said he wasnt. And to confirm the last recent pictures hes sent me hes had perfect hair with no signs of thinning, normal like I used to have it.
Now this baffled me even more as arent twins (we are identical) meant to have the same genetic codes, like throughout puberty we grew together, everything was very similar. And now me going bald seems so unfair. I am now asking for help as to what could possibly causing my hair to thin.
In my current situation Im at University, in my last year, in a pretty sh*t flat, with some average people, my diet hasnt been amazing neither has my excerise (maybe three excersices per week). I seem like quite a healthy young male.
However in terms of University im one of those students who likes to leave things to the last minute and then heictically stress out and try fix it all up, ive done this over the last two years and Im wondering if this could be the case.
I also like to worry about a lot of things and being intertwined with University sometimes things just feel overwhelming.
What Im trying to say is please tell me the case I have at the moment is not hereditery and that it may have been caused by enviornmental factors or something.

*currently I have just my routine to shampooing every 3 days and CIT 0.5mm per week.

*my hair loss has predominetley been on my temples and I cant confirm if its happening on the crown,

Looks like male pattern baldness. You have some temple recession but otherwise the hair looks pretty solid. It will get worse but its hard to say whether it would have a cosmetic impact in months or years.

I'd closely monitor the situation and jump on finasteride as soon as you start losing ground.

Did you see a trichologist or some other useless 'professional' as dermarolling is a complete waste of time and energy.

Hi well its not the news I want to hear but I guess I gotta take it that way. How do you know for sure ? and how come this couldnt be stress related ? I feel like a lot of the odds are against me and this slim chance of me have male pattern baldness is happening.

- Twin has good hair
- Mothers side of the family good hair
- Father and his father started thinning in their early thirties

I have also noticed in the shower if I brush my hair through the back of my hair or sides more hair comes out there

Like I just want to know why its for sure.

I don't think we can come to a conclusion its MBP at this point. Normal to lose 50 hairs a day, possibly due to stress for you.

Unfortunately more often than not its male pattern baldness. You have temple recession which is a classic sign. Whether or not it will progress rapidly its hard to say.

Hair loss related to diet/stress/hormones tends to be very diffuse and generally is very rare for males.

If you closely look at the hair in your temples see if it's minaturized (short narrow hairs) it's likely male pattern baldness.

Your best bet would be to consult a dermatologist, as online you are never going to know. However, it's always best to prepare for worst case scenarios

Even if it is male pattern baldness, you've got a great start and could maintain that hair well into your 30s

Hi I'm just wondering if you can take my case into consideration like is there no way telegoen eluffium can be more intense above the temples.
Like I would like to know some big comparison cause the signs are telling me it could be male pattern baldness or telegoen ellufium, also I have noticed a thinning just passed my hairline and through my valleys, the parting in my hair, also my hairs I find in the shower have bulbs at the tips.
I just f*****g hate losing hair someone please help me.

Hey man - welcome to HairLossTalk.com - the site we all wish we never had to be on hah. I think people here are overlooking the fact that you are identical twins. In theory you are clones and should have the exact same genes - including male pattern baldness gene. So if your brother isn't balding there are are a few things that could be. 1 - your brother is balding and just doesn't know it yet - he could be lying or just wrong. 2 - your brother isn't balding yet because the environment you're in has had impact on your genes and sped up the process (look up epigenetics for more details). 3- your not actually identical twins but fraternal twins - apparently this error is commonly made and you would only know if you did DNA testing.
I would talk to a doctor about propecia and or minoxidil first - someone giving you a needler and nioxin doesn't know much about hair loss. Try to clean up your diet - and reduce stress if possible. At this rate normal people don't see what you see so try to remember that. If you keep receding then in a few years you will wish you had this hair back to enjoy - so enjoy it while you can and don't sweat a little recession - i know its easier said then done but trust me - its incredibly difficult to regrow hair but seems to go so easily so enjoy what you have while you still have it.

Looks like male pattern baldness. That pattern (temple recession) is almost always indicative of male pattern baldness. Your twin brother probably is actually balding just styles his hair differently, or he isn't an identical twin.

Really ? Well we are identical and he hasn't been losing any hair he said recently. I'm just gonna see what happens in a couple of months. If it is male pattern baldness how much hair should I be losing daily compared to if it was Telogen Effluvium.

Your crown looks fine. You have temple recession, but don't really see anymore miniaturization. Honestly, your hair might remain the way it is for quite some time. Hair loss daily on male pattern baldness varies by person and how aggressive it is. Some people will only notice 25-50 hairs and others will notice 250+ hairs a day. Telogen Effluvium would not have that pattern, it causes loss all over your head. You can lose thousands of hairs a day with telogen effluvium. So if you have diffuse thinning male pattern baldness, this can be confused with telogen effluvium, but hairline recession is almost always male pattern baldness.

Also it is normal to lose 50-100 hairs a day without any kind of hair loss, so wouldn't worry too much unless you're noticing an abnormal amount of shedding.

Good density and crown with some temple recession. Potentially mature hairline but hard to tell from pics.

So yes, you are in the early innings of male pattern baldness. Whether it will continue and at what pace is anyone's guess. I'd take consistent pics under the same light for 3-4 months. If you see any change, go get a prescription for finasteride and don't look back.

I have been noticing when I shampoo my head that when I brush my hair through my sides or backs there does too seem to be hair coming out. I feel like you guys are right about the hair people I have seen, when I very first noticed my hair loss it was only on one side of the temple. Predomiantley on the right and it was difficult to tell on the left if there was any at all. Like I said I had long hair at the time, and I could tell that the side was thinning when it was in the sun because my hair was so long. But after I got my haircut, there was still that patch on my right side, so I was like f*** maybe I am losing hair at a fast rate, so after I showered and shampooed I checked my hair and lost 6-10 strains and I freaked out, but I take it thats very normal, I just had no idea at the time. So I went to these "so called specialists" and they said that my hair was obviously thinning but I had caught it at a right time. So I used what they recommended and at first the Nioxin was good I only lost 2 strains per shower for the first 3 washes but then I started losing at least 20-30 everytime. They had also recommended for me to shampoo and condition daily, I feel like this speed things up a bit.
Do you think its a good idea, to ditch the Nioxin ? I like using the roller cause it feels like I may physically be helping it.
Im really anxious and curious to see what happens, I mean fingers crossed its not male pattern baldness but from what Im reading it looks that way. And is there any health issues/side effects with finasteride ?
