Finally i met my dermatologist today, and i need your input my friends.

I’ve been visiting her for last 6months and was getting multivitamins for my hairloss.
This visit, she asked me how i was doing?
I told her that i’ve pain in the scalp accompanied by hairloss & oily scalp which i’ve recently developed.
She immediately laughed and said that pain in scalp! its all psychological.

Carrying on the conversation, she said that i’m suffering from Male Pattern Baldness. She told me about finasteride and added that she won’t recommend finasteride because of the side effects however may recommend if i insist. So she prescribed me Minoxidil5% with Finasteride topical along with multivitamins.

Further she said that its ok to lose hair & nothing to be obsessed about. Earn big & lead a happy life rather than taking the approved drug. She kind of advocated hair transplant though she isn’t a hair transplant surgeon.

I’ll be turning 24 in couple of months but how i am not supposed to be obsessed with my hair? None of my family members are bald, my grand parents are not bald except my grandfather who started to loose when he was around 40.

Questions:
1.Is scalp pain psychological?
2.Minoxidil with topical finasteride works?
3.My hairline is intact, however thining all over for last 1 year! Is there any timeline to know when i’ll be bald?
4.How do you find your fate in the norwood zone? Like some people stay norwood 3 for ages!
5.Other than finasteride how long one can keep hair? What precautions or measures to be taken to retain them for longer periods!
6.How much smoking impacts the condition?
7.Am i a difuser? I’ll not follow the norwood chart? Or the worst is yet to come?

You have the option of going to another derma or another doctor.

1) Scalp itch is associated with male pattern baldness and is reported by many members of this community. Some describe it as an army of crawling ants. It's not well understood. You can reduce the itch with Nizoral shampoo, and/or topical tree oil.

2) Minoxidil and finasteride work in separate and independent ways. Min is on average superior in the short term, and finasteride in the long-term, but both have variable response rates.

3,4) Timeline and fate are difficult to estimate.

5) finasteride and min are the best bets. You can also consider derma rolling, nizoral shampoo, and black market drugs.

6) Smoking accelerates male pattern baldness.

7) male pattern baldness is a progressive illness, so the worst is usually "yet to come" unless you go on treatments.

Someone's already answered these questions, so I won't bother.

Just out of curiosity, what multi vits are you being prescribed?

Do you know if multi vits actually help regrowth if deficiency is a reason behind hairloss?

I'm going for a blood test on Wednesday and I'm usually found to be deficient in vit.D.

Its not the itch but something that causes pressure on the scalp accompanied by heat not burning sensation.

Even i’m deficient of VIT.D, & the multi vitamins she prescribed has grapeseed extract, B5, Biotin etc. Good luck and hope you’re not having male pattern baldness.

I would find a new derm. She doesn't sound like the ideal Doctor to be seeing for someone committed to the fight against male pattern baldness
Yes thats what my sister said and asked me to get a second opinion, and the hairline which you’re watching is same ever since i can remember. However the density is going down.

I wrote tea tree oil but I meant peppermint oil, sorry that was a mistake .

You might try it, it's available in pharmacies, is cheap and can feel good .

See another derm or a specialist. I don’t want to sound sexist but most women dermatologist/doctors are not good at treating male pattern baldness. I think they have a difficult time relating because women generally do not suffering from hairloss at a young age.

FYI I have been on finasteride 1mg pill for over. Two years, no sides.

Just can’t get enough courage to visit hair transplant surgeon for indepth details.

Though i’ve got myself finasteride and taking .25Mg everyday. I’ve this satisfaction that i’m doing something about it, however i’m scared of impotency. I don’t wanna lose sex & want to have babies once i’m married.

Just out of curiosity, i’ve alot of bumps on the head lately & my hair hygiene is good. When i scratch them i get the wound peel. I’m using nizoral 2% EOD.

further i’m planning to add regenepure dr, minoxidil 5% with .1% finasteride topical solution soon.

Most people don’t get sides from finasteride. I doesn’t cause impotencey. If you are a rare case where you get ed studies found that it goes away after you stop taking the meds.

Honestly there is a vocal minority who hate on finasteride online. Most of them are older men 35+ who are blaming the drug for problems more commonly associated with age.

Also I would not have a hair transplant. You are much better off than me. Even my N2 “good side” was worse than you are now

Yes i’ve heard most people got sides who were in the placebo group, however we can’t deny that some people had permanent damage too. You’re playing with the most important hormone which gave you the characteristics, and may go rogue if over done.(my believe, and i maybe wrong).

Honestly i’ve heard about propeciahelp. I avoid it as of now.

@buckthorn suggested me to visit hair transplant surgeon to evaluate my situation as he believes dermatologist aren’t well versed. I thank him for his friendly advice.

Also @Obesecat my hairline has been the same since the birth, so i was born nw2.
But i had huge density and thick hair, all i’m left with is thick hair and reduced density. (My second birthday Hairline)

People having permanently damage is a load of horse sh*t in my opinion. No proof other than anecdotal evidence from a very few vocal minority. Its really just the placebo effect. No proof finasteride causes impotence. Most people who claim they got permanent erectile disfuction are over 35 years old. Ed is actually common in that age range. So it’s just prescribing age related problems to the drug

I’m willing to take finasteride for next 5 years(if no sides), hopefully something safe will show up by then.

I’ve made an observation that my hairfall had reduced prior to popping finasteride. I had started taking coconut water & probiotic drinks. Maybe my gut is the root cause of my hairloss or maybe it reduced naturally.

You look like a Norwood 0 in your baby pic. But you clearly have minor temporal recession in your current one. Don’t be in denial. I mean that in a nice way also

Trust me, my hairline was fucked from the start. Its like the mickey mouse and its ears type hairline. I may agree on minor receding but my density is what has taken the major hit.

Yeah your hairline is definitely high but I don’t see temporal recession in the baby pics.

I know what you mean I started off with a high hairline and even a little recession fucks you over in that regard.
