Increasing finasteride dose vs shifting to dutasteride?

I've completed my two years on finasteride with no significant results. I was seeing improvement during 10-14 months but then started the downfall and it seems as finasteride never really worked again and since then my hairline has recessed alot(a bald spot too on the hairline) and top has thinned alot. Now I'm considering whether should I increase my finasteride dose from 1mg/day to 2mg/day or start dutasteride.

If it's advised to start dutasteride then I have some questions regarding it.

1) How should I start dutasteride?. Should I introduce twice weekly dose(0.5mg) of dutasteride into my existing routine(finasteride 1mg/day) or should I stop finasteride and take daily .5mg of dutasteride?

2) I dont know but I read somwhere long ago that once you're on dutasteride you can never go back to finasteride as finasteride never works after your body is introuduced to a stronger drug(dutasteride)?

3) If I start dutasteride then I don't need a prescription for it. How important is it to involve a doctor into making this decision or will it be okay if I start it on my own?. I don't think many docs in my area know about dutasteride and if it's advised to see a doctor before starting dutasteride then what test should I ask the Doctor to do befroe putting me on dutasteride?

Please guide me in making this decision. I'd appreciate your help.

increasing finasteride dose will do literally nothing. Switching to dutasteride might increase your odds of maintenance long term but its not very significant either

One other reason I'm considering dutasteride is becuase I have developed painful itchy inflammation on scalp since starting finasteride. Many people claim that their scalps were free of any kind of inflammation while on dutasteride. Your regimen states that you're on dutasteride. Did you have any kind of scalp itch before starting dutasteride and if u did then how has been your scalp since starting dutasteride?

I had some itch but if you had an itch from finasteride dutasteride wouldn't be different
