Acne is scientific term which is caused by excessive oil production in the sebaceous glands. The secretions are called sebum and this oil drains into hair follicles. Acne comes in many forms including blackheads, whiteheads, cystic, severe nodular and mild inflammatory acne. Acne is the most common skin disease in the world; it is not contagious but it does affect more than eighty percent of the population .The sebaceous glands lie just beneath the skin's surface. They produce oil called sebum, the skin's natural moisturizer. These glands and the hair follicles within which they are found are called sebaceous follicles. These follicles open onto the skin through pores.
Accutane increased levels of androgens (male hormones) cause the glands to produce too much sebum. When excess sebum combines with dead, sticky skin cells, a hard plug, or comedo, forms that blocks the pore. Mild no inflammatory acne consists of the two types of comedones, whiteheads and blackheads While it is considered a rite of passage for teenagers and many adults may suffer acne into their 40s, the causes for acne are not limited to one portion of the population. Acne affects all ages, races and genders.
