Hey guys,

Most of you regulars have probably seen my posts here over the last 2 years or so about my painful scalp. Over the past 2 years I've had to wash my hair every 24hrs or else I'd get a very bruised feeling scalp. The only way to get rid of this pain was to take a shower, and even then my scalp always felt a bit uneasy and not right afterwards. I got my DHT levels tested about a year and a half ago and they read high at 81ng/dL and the max in the "normal" range is 85ng/dL.

Well for the last four days I've taken 0.25mg of propecia. A whole pill total over the last four days.
On Friday around 4pm I showered and then I did my normal routine of blow drying and fixing my hair. I then took my first 0.25mg...

Within the first day I had absolutely zero scalp pain and inflammation. Zero. My scalp felt so great that I didn't shower till Sunday night. This is the first time in two years that I went that long without washing my hair without feeling incredible amounts of pain. My scalp still had oil on it but there was zero pain. There was also nearly zero dandruff on my scalp. I just took a shower after not showering for nearly 24hrs and still zero pain.

I've also always lost a good amount of hair in the shower, like around 80-110 consistently for the past two years. I'm still losing that so far, in fact maybe a bit more. I've clogged shower drains my entire life though.

Now I'm making this post because I am truly truly truly concerned about my sperm. It is way more watery than usual, but still cloudy just more runny. I also do masturbate more than average. I've read that this is usually a temporary side effect but I am concerned primarily because I'd like to have kids some day, probably within the next ten years or so. Ten years is a long time to be on this drug imo especially if it affects sperm motility, which I heard is possible. I've also heard anecdotal evidence of people successfully having kids on the drug.. The scalp pain is bad enough to stay on the drug. I have no other side effects besides this.

I also would like to hear people's opinions on my scalp pain and the root cause of this. I think it's probably some kind of immune response to DHT? Or maybe it's a by product of too much DHT? This is the first time my scalp has felt normal, is there any other way to have this without finasteride?

Thanks guys.

Waterly semen is, the way I see it, a positive sign that finasteride is normalising our DHT levels. It not only prevents further hair loss. In addition, it prevents enlagred prostate, which most Western men eventually suffer from.

So you believe that watery semen is a normal thing? Like a person with normal dht levels without finasteride will also have watery semen? Or is this just a temporary thing?

No a person who isn't on a prostate shrinking drug definitely has a thicker consistency, your sperm count may also be lower while on the drug. I see these both as a positive considering I feel a lot safer pulling out now than pre finasteride :D

Hair loss is hardly a natural phenomenon, it is just very common, especially among Western men. Our lifestyle, as well as the lifestyle among men for the last thousands of years, is very different from that of our ancestors during most of our evolution. It should not come as a surprise that some of the very fine-tuned processes in our bodies might be slightly unbalanced.

Both hair loss, overly developed body hair, ache and enlarged prostate are symptoms of too much DHT. Finasteride therefore rather helps us balance our DHT lever, than disturb it.

To your question: In may well be that many of us have unnaturally high ejaculation volume, due to overly active prostate. A reduction in volume may therefore just be a normal thing. My best guess, however, is that the watery part is a sign that the prostate is less active than normal. I would not worry about it to much, however. Remember, almost all of the volume consists of liquid from the prostate. There are still numerus semen.

The scalp pain thing is just one of those questions with no answers. A lot of men have it like myself, and a lot dont. What does it mean or is there a connection? its been debated many times, but we have no clear answers. Right now there is no clear link

Clearly there's inflammation going on and there should be other ways to combat this than just lowering DHT?
