Hi all

I'm after some advice, if it's somewhere here, please direct this noob.

I would like to visit a specialist who will assess my rate of hair loss using whatever effective tools there are now (microscopes, blood tests, etc) and give impartial advice on what treatment I should look into.

I see there are lots of free consultations, but I'm caution of "salesman" doctors selling me something that's not right for me.

Basically I would like to know a) how bad my hair loss is, b) how much worse it will get and c) what reasonable options do I have to treat it

Anyone have recommendations or best course of action?

Thanks in advance

I have some useful advice: don’t visit a hair specialist under the NHS. The only medications they can prescribe are minoxidil and finasteride, although when I visited mine she said she couldn’t prescribe me finasteride and that I can purchase minoxidil over the counter. These ‘hair specialists’ are only useful for diagnoses, and nothing more if I’m being honest.

You should do your own research, and gain personal knowledge on hair loss because that is much more valuable.

I wouldn't even trust them for diagnoses tbh. I've heard stories of people sending pictures (obtained through Google) of perfect NW0 hairlines to the Belgravia Centre, to which they respond by saying they're suffering from male pattern baldness and should book an appointment.

Lol, that was me. I sent a picture of someone from the internet who is an NW0 and they told me that I am suffering from male pattern baldness and I should use their expensive *** minoxidil (I believe it was around £150 per three months supply).

The Scamgravia Centre just want our money, and don't know much about hair. When they called me, I thought I was getting called by one of those Indian call centre scammers listening to the little knowledge they have.

Also, the Indian lady who called me was so rude! She was shoving that I have male pattern baldness down my throat and was pressuring me into purchasing the minoxidil even though the person I sent an image of suffered from zero hair loss whatsoever.

Yeh, I gathered that Belgravia were mass marketed rubbish.

I suppose i don't really need a diagnosis, as I know it's male pattern baldness. What I really want is someone to look at my hair under a microscope, take blood tests and say Mr Teacosy, your hair is xx per sq inch, which means that it's yy and in 5 years your hair will be zz. Throw in a blood test that confirms I have high levels of DHT or something.

Otherwise, sure I could just buy finasteride and minoxidil myself, but I though it best for a specialist to tell me how bad it is.

No one here did the sought the same professional opinion first,?

I didn’t, mainly because I knew the response I would get. Hair specialists aren’t that knowledgable on options, and the options are overly gender biased.
