I’m Only 18.5 Y/o And Having Hair Loss, Don’t Know What To Do (pics)

Hi guys,
I’m only 18.5 years old and my hair is thinning a lot in the scalp, also I noticed some temples..
My dad and his brothers are bald/patially bald (my dad the most bald), but it didn’t start for any of them at such a young age...
I thought about Minoxidil 5% but after reading that it causes an enhanced balding at first, and then also after like 7-8 months, I got really scared and I don’t know if I should risk what I have now...
I went to a doctor and he said it’s just rumors, but after seeing so many prooves to that here I dind it really hard to believe.
Also I don’t want to take propecia as it thins your semen and can cause depression etc. (I’m not the happiest person anyway, and now with myself having balding I feel even worse).
Please help guys, what do you think I should do, in shower when I pass my hand through the head I shed hair every time (and it’s a very thin hair), I’m really clueless as both Minoxidil and Propecis are dangerous...

That is pretty bad for an 18 year old. There is no way to save this as of right now other than minoxidil and finasteride. I suggest you atleast try minoxidil until you are 20 and then maybe consider propecia afterwards. If you arent willing to take any of the medication thats available right now then you will probably be bald at 21-22.
How old is you dad his brothers and what age did they start going bald? How is your moms side? Is there balding on that side too? I am pretty sure your hairloss actually started when you were 16-17.

Start treating it bro. You are still young and plenty you can do to help maintain and hopefully regrow some too!
My dad says he was starting to go bald at like 28, so did my uncles, though their father has a pretty good hair at an old age.
My mother’s dad is also partially bald but he wasn’t completely bald in the past..
I know it’s a pretty bad case, I’m considering treating with minoxidil and nizural, do you think it will be ok?
Don’t know why it happened to me, I’m so depressed right now..

Sorry to hear you have to go trough all this at just 18 y/o man, that’s brutal.. Though if you don’t wanna shave your head, there’s a chance you can maintain and regrow your hair IF you’re a good responder to certain meds!
How far receded is your hairline by the way?
Starting propecia is a tough one, since with 18 years old your body can still be in development and a drug like finasteride might get in the way with this. Some people advice against it, some just take the leap and are happy about the decision they made. I think that choice is up to you and depends on how much you’re willing to risk to keep your hair! Don’t give in to the fear mongering about finasteride too much by the way. Yes it can be dangerous and may have some sides, but imo it’s a bit exaggerated on this forum.
I didn’t want to start meds, but then I saw I kept losing hair and looked at it like this. Yes you can have mental side effecst, but this whole balding process is depressing and tough on you mentally as well. Yes you can shed from this drug, but if I continue to shed in this pace I’m gonna be bald anyway so might just try something.

Don't you think Minoxidil can help instead of the Propecia?

At best minoxidil can buy you some time. With hairloss like this though, more agressive treatment will be needed at one point.

Honestly, I don’t think so but you never know really. Every body is different and some people just seem to respond to minoxidil really well. You’ll never know unless you try it. Just don’t expect too much, because it could be that it’s not doing much for your aggressive hair loss.
And like alphalete says, you can always go for a hairsystem. Although I think I would feel weird wearing one, no matter how perfect it would fit and look on me. But then again, that’s different for everyone! It does solve the problem straight away since you’re going to a full head of hair instantly.
