I'm new to all this.

Over the past week, I've been really trying to figure out which direction to go in. I'm 30 and have been thinning on the crown and front for a couple years or so. It's kinda like a Costanza thing, but without the complete baldness part. I've been comfortable in my own skin when I started noticing because I was with some girl whom I was thinking I'd marry someday, but I actually ended it (I'll spare the details). Anyway, I'm on the dating scene again and I look less than flattering with the thinning taking place. Been considering surgery and have already started taking Kirkland 5% minoxidil for a couple weeks now.

I'm not rich or anything, but from what I've been reading, the cost would be more than worth it I think. The thought of going bald has really been bothering me, as I'm sure it does to most.

I have a couple issues, however, that I don't think most can relate to.

1. I have a scar on the top of my head about 1.5 inches long.

2. My facial hair grows in funny kinda like it balds where the cheek is.

Here are some pics:

Can I get any thought on this? I don't know how my loss compares to others here. I am getting a consultation soon though for possible surgery so I'll see what is suggested there. I forgot to mention, I've started to take 5% minoxidil twice a day as recommended for a couple weeks now. And I've also been losing weight in an attempt to get into better shape. Thanks.

I think if you got on the big 3 you could gain allot of density back on the crown. It look like you have allot of diffused hair on top and those could grow thicker with Finastride.

Honestly bro, pretty much bald. Hanging on threads here, all though propecia could help I can't see it recovering much.

Will need to hop on medication, maintain then get a transplant in the future if having hair is what you want.

I've had rumors that working out and getting minoxidil had some side effects. How are you holding up?

If he responds well to finasteride and minoxidil he could get a decent head of hair back.

If you thicken up the front with finasteride you'd just have recession which is a lot more casual and socially accepted.

So it sounds like the consensus is I should just except the genetics I was handed. I'm not sure if by "bald" everyone here means really short, or just completely removed. I feel like I may be able to get away with really short and maintain a shorter beard. I just don't want to look silly. Also have been applying minoxidil on my beard to try and stimulate the bald spot where my cheek is. I have heard (and seen) success with this. Will know in 2-3 months if there is any reaction.

I like this idea.. Focus on getting your beard better while you assess your hair situation and figure out what you want to do. Not only focus on thickening your beard, but focus on improving your styling of it. Different methods of trimming.. Your beard could be really nice with the right touch.
