hey guys its been just 2 days since i started on finpecia
and today i had an appointment with a very famous trichologist in my region
he took some pics of my scalp and said i was suffering from a scalp infection that had also triggered off male pattern baldness
he said the scalp infection is called MALARSIA FURSFUR..any of u guys heard this before?i couldn't find any info about it on google
i told him that the only proven treatments were finasteride and min..he agreed and said there was another treatment which he would provide..but it was definitely not Dun..i forgot what its called :(
anyway..he said propecia worked for 40-50% males only and he claimed that i would have to be on his treatment for both male pattern baldness and the infection for a year only..unlike propecia
also..he said that nizoral was just a cleansening agent and that it will not cure my fungal infection
i'm really confused :( should i stop finasteride and go for his treatment?
or should i stick to finasteride..i really don't know
plzzzzz help me out guys...i've seen that even my previous posts here have had many viewers but very few people who reply
if u have something to say..plzzz do
this is affecting me mentally :( i've lost my confidence
i'm at Norwood 2 or lesser
and my regimen is 1mg finpecia(cipla) since 2 days
my target is to maintain what i have till HM is available..that is about 3-4 years..is that such a big deal :(
i'm really committed and i wanna fight this crap..but i need to know where do i begin..each time i make up my mind somebody says something which forces me to think again

Trichologist's are not medical practioners. Anybody with little or no qualifications or experience in hair care can legally call themselves a trichologist.

 And you believed this? The FDA trials showed a success rate of 83%. I trust the FDA. What exactly is "his" treatment? It must be very effective if its going to cure your male pattern baldness for life, after only 1 year of treatment. You must share this scientific miracle with us all. A treatment so effective it can banish DHT for life. How incredible.

Rubbish. Nizoral contains Ketoconazole, which is a drug used to treat fungal infections. This is why the 2% stuff is only available in licensed pharmacies and in some countries requires a prescribtion.

This guy is feeding you BS to try and get you to buy some snake oil for a grossly over inflated price. Next time you see him, take along a copy of the BNF, open the page about Ketoconazole and beat him with it. Hard. :pissed:

this is probrably not what you want to hear but I think looking for answers to problems on a forum is somewhat ill advised - I dont think anyone on this board (and if they do I would be highly suspicious) would give you answers in the absolute sense - sure there may be some people with advice and opinions but thats all - what counts is hard facts gained through clinical studies or a proper medical diagnoses carried out by a competent clinical profressional if self diagnosis is not possible - which for most of us with male pattern baldness it is

I read that link you gave (did you actually bother to read it yourself?) and it says both treatment and prevention can be by ketaconzanole (or however you spell it) and they even mention Nizoral by name! one other MINOR point in that link is it stated

DOES NOT CAUSE HAIRLOSS (check the prognosis section)

so the quack sorry clinician you went to see doesnt seem to know his stuff - however if this truly is what is what is "causing" your male pattern baldness (which personally I doubt) then consider yourself lucky as it seems to be a temporary condition and not something that requires long term treatment like male pattern baldness does

On the strength of the rather silly comment you said your trico made on the fungal issue and his frankly rubbish knowledge of the proven effectiveness of finasteride (40-50% effective - its great how we never question clinicians as to where they get their silly stats from) I'd agree with Brit and say he sounds like he's chatting some major cow manure.
