How can you tell if you have genetic hair loss, or hairloss from DHT? My uncles have a full set, haven't lost anything. My dad lost a little hair when he was in his early 20's but still has a lot of hair (was due to stress and not eating healthy)

well here I am losing a little bit of hair daily. It's probaly been 2 years now and i can barely tell in the front that i'm having slight hair loss. How can i tell if this is just dht or from some great great great grandfather who also had hairloss?

2nd question:

If it's genetic, then would buying all these products even help fight my hairloss problem?

if my hairloss is by DHT, then when does it decide to stop? Does it always make all the hair on top fall out? I keep searching and reading and I just get more and more lost. Please help me out :(

Everyone has DHT. Genetic hair loss (Androgenetic Alopecia / male pattern baldness) means that your follicles are susceptible to DHT and will start to miniaturize until they become dormant. There's no real way to tell how much hair you will lose, but your family history is a good bet. So if your uncles, grandfathers etc. have a full set and your Dad just receded a little you're probably in good shape. If your Dad's hair loss was permanent, I don't think it can be attributed to stress or diet. This type of hair loss almost always grows back.

Also, it's normal to shed 50-100 hairs a day. So unless you're shedding more than that or notice thinning don't worry about it. Not sure how old you are, but there is also a normal transition from a teenage hairline to an adult hairline where the temples move back a bit. This usually is complete by the early 20s.

The FAQs on this web site are a good starting point to clear up your confusion.

well I am 18 (turning 19 this friday woohoo!) thank you for the response. I feel some relief and I hope that my hair line stops slowly moving back.

This is transition, is it only ur hairline? can sometimes your hair thin because of becoming and adult?

If it's diffuse all around (even the sides and back) then see a derm. If it's on the hairline or crown, then it's male pattern baldness.
