I'm Confused And Scared That I Might Go Bald In The Future

I'm 20years old and I'm trying to understand how hair loss works, because I'm afraid of going bald in the future, especially that I've had a long hair my whole life.

So I wanna quickly tell you about my family's hair. My father started going bald in his mid 30s and got bald by the age of 45 (but his father and his grandparents had perfect hairs their whole life) and he has a brother who has a perfect hair at the age of 43. My mom's dad started going bald when he was 40ish and he got bald at the age of 56 (and his father and grandparents also had a good hair their whole life) and he too has a brother with good hair now that they are 70 both. So this was really confusing to me, why are my dad and my granddad from my moms side only two people bald in my close family? How likely am I to go bald in the future? How likely am I to go bald before my 30s (because I wanna live my 20s with hair)? I had fine hair my whole life and that's the reason why I had it long, right now my hairline is fine (like it was my whole life) but I can't stop looking myself at the mirror and trying to find thin or baldspot.

My mom thinks my dad and granddad are bald because they were in military and they wore those Helmets. She thinks wearing helmets on warm days get sculp to be weaker and that's the reason they lost hair.

I wanna hear your guys opinion on this. Thanks in advance :)

Hairloss is genetics, but you cant really know if and when you start balding, in what shape, and at what rate. relatives are just some indication, to know more or less what can you expect, but nothing is guaranteed.
According to what you stated, you have long time till you should start worry. You can just once in a few month take alook, but certainly dont need to start panic and over obsessed with it from now.

helmets have nothing to do with it.

As mentioned, wearing helmets has nothing to do with male pattern baldness. It is a genetic condition.

Family history is a very good indicator, as male pattern baldness is genetic. It is unlikely that you will start losing your hair in your 20s if you have no family history of anyone going bald until their mid 30s. However, I just want to point out that your dad could possibly have had the beginnings of hair loss several years before the point that it became obvious to himself or those around him that he was balding. After all, most people in this world are not trained or attentive Norwood spotters. But in any case, I don't think you are going to lose your hair during the next few years. Unfortunately, you are at risk of losing your hair later on though, considering that your dad and maternal granddad both ended up going bald. If you do experience hair loss in the future, you'll need to use finasteride in order to treat it properly (unless a superior alternative comes out by that point, which is a possibility).
