I'm balding at 17.5 and have some questions about finasteride.

All I want is normal person genetics , at least then life is more About what you do

but when you got subpar genetics , it's hard to walk around without feeling like crap

Yeah, sometime when I'm down it helps to think about how there are 4 billion women on earth. At least one of them is bound to settle for my insecure ***.

If I don't take finasteride I'm also losing my chances of height or hair as well

as as risky as it seems I think I have to give it a try

Taking finasteride is essentially closing the door on any potential height. By 19 you are almost guarenteed to be done growing. The increased estrogen from finasteride will most likely be enough to fuse the epiphyseal plates in you legs and arms. I would try to put it off for a year. I'm going to wait a year and a half and pray Samumed has something good to show on Saturday.

You said you are 5"11 right? That seems like a very good height anyways

then again I don't know how bad your hair loss is. If your hair loss is mild I suppose waiting is a good idea

for me though I just can't stand knowing that I'm watching it happen without acting

My hair loss is relatively slim. I feel like I won't progress more than half a norwood if I wait a year and a half. Im supposed to end up around 6 foot to 6 foot 1 and I feel like it would be better to get to that height and then get on finasteride because finasteride isnt guarenteed to work. Worst case is I lose more hair and have to wait until Samumed/Histogen/Replicel come out. There will never be a treatment to make me taller so I might as well reach my genetic potential. If you are 5'6 there is a good chance that you may be a late bloomer and still have a good 1-3 inches left of growth. Only 0.01% of people grow after 19 so I figure I just need to wait until then. You only need to wait one year. What is your current norwood?

My problem isn't really a receding hair line . I have thinning in the crown area that makes me feel disgusting about my hair

i feel like my crown will go fast based on my current state and my genetics ( early balding ) . I just don't want to wait until it's to late .

the Norwood scale seems to be mostly for receding hair lines so Im not sure what number I am

Thought I'd post a quick update on my progress with finasteride. I've been on it for about three months now and haven't experienced any shedding yet. Most of my hairline has grown back or is in the process of growing back. I was only around a NW1.5 or NW2 so this isn't too crazy of a result. No sides to report, other than some very sporadic ball ache and watery semen. Overall I'm very happy with my decision to get on the drug and I no longer feel like my life is over. I could go on about how I think everyone needs to at least give it a try or how I think the risk of side effects has been overblown, but we've all heard it a million times. Good luck everyone!

I will only consider finasteride if nothing comes out within the next 3 years and if I'm losing ground. Seems silly to get on it now if you're not losing ground and better treatments are clearly on the horizon

I agree, but most people are losing ground.
