If you're an American, there is NO reason you should be buying finasteride online...

I know online pharmacies, shady as they are, offer cheap finasteride. But the risks are not worth the price. I go to Costco (I live in Orange County, California) and get a 30 day supply of generic finasteride for only $13. (30 1mg tablets). That's $156 a year. Come the **** on. We're all adults here. That is one nice dinner with a girl I'm going out with. That's nothing. For one year of finasteride. And it's from a reputable place like Costco. If you're in the camp that swears by Propecia, this doesn't apply to you. You don't buy online anyway. But if you do buy online from those weird Indian websites, and you live in the States, please re-evaluate your decision next time you need a refill.

Also, I'm not even sure if I got all that good of a deal. I'm still shopping around brick and mortar pharmacies here in SoCal. But $13 a month ain't bad at all.

I just picked up a 30 day prescription of propecia from my local safeway supermarket/pharmacy. The price for generic finasteride is around $68 while propecia is around $87 for one month of 1mg per day. This is my first time taking it, but I'm not happy with paying almost $90 a month for finasteride. I think I might go check out wal-mart and costco pharmacies. My insurance doesn't cover finasteride, does yours?

if you're able to get a prescription for 5mg tablets (and then cut into fifths) it works out as dirt, dirt cheap compared to 1mg. Really worth considering

and I agree about avoiding dodgy online overseas pharmacies. They might not be subject to the same stringent manufacturing regulations that are in place in western countries, so there's always a slight risk

I paid like $25 for 60 Proscar tablets online. That works out to an 8 month supply for a grand total of $3.13 per month. I'd say there's still an argument to be made for buying online in America.

For me the issue is my GP won't give 5 mg finasteride. I know I can get it by finding another GP but not worth the hassle currently anyway. The prices of 1 mg finasteride in the UK are a big RIP OFF. I am talking like £100 for 3 months supply, that's like $150. It would end up much more than my car insurance at that rate. Screw that.

LOL you think that is bad? For three months, my local pharmacy is charging me $204 USD for just generic finasteride. Almost $300 for propecia 1mg for 3 months.

If you're getting legit proscar online then more power to you. If you're getting some random 5mg finasteride tablets with some funky name then I'm not sure id keep taking them. Sure $3 a month beats the hell out of $80 a month for propecia... but even then I think the $77 premium is worth the safety.

But an extra $10 a month for pills that are already in 1mg tablets (no need to cut), are made with the strict FDA regulations, come from a reputable dealer like costco, and keep you in the good graces of your doctor are the better deal imho.

I agree. If I would have known finasteride was so cheap at costco I would have just went to them from the start.

That's why I'm here friend. It's actually pretty shocking to me that costco isn't discussed more by american posters on HairLossTalk.com. A lot of people seem to think the only options are: 1) pay a ****-ton of money, 2) beg your doctor for a proscar 5mg script (which they never want to give), or 3) buy from these dubious online pharmacies.

The best option is your local costco.

I live in the UK, and I get my dutasteride from Alldaychemist. It costs $217 USD (about £140 GBP) for a year's supply of 360 capsules, with free shipping (birthday coupon applied). It is working brilliantly for me and has regrown a lot of hair. It is absolutely 100% legitimate.

walmart, walgreens, cvs etc are all alot more. I too fill at costco and for some bizarre reason its like 30% the price of everyone else. I get 90 day supply 1mg for around 30 bucks. Not even worth trying to cut them for that. Costco is the only way to go

How long have you been taking finasteride from costco? The generic finasteride I bought is from a manufacturer called ACTAVIS INC. Are you using the same stuff? How have your results been so far?

Ive been on it for 8 months. Not much (if any results) but Im a full crown of hair, fighting a nw2 hairline kind of guy. So Im realistic that I may never "see" results... and in fact not seeing anything (get worse) may be results themselves. Moms side of hair = all men BALD as **** by 40. Ill look tomorrow at the brand, not sure who it is

I had pretty much 2 doctors tell me that there was nothing I could do. I had to push the issue and tell him that I would like to give it a try. Finally he wrote me a script.

Yeah stabilization is a positive. But 8 months is still early in the treatment process. I recently heard that results can sometimes take up to two or more years.

Since late 2014. I also use the Actavis, INC. Thus far no sides whatsoever. (Just as an aside, I don't have any side effects from Nizoral nor 5% Minoxidil either. My body is extremely tolerant to medication I guess). I have hairs sprouting at my temples which is an amazing feeling. As far as thickness it's somewhat hard to tell. My hair is around 5 inches long, so it appears thick anyway. I'll have to keep an eye on it. One benefit I found within a short amount of time was LESS of a shed, oddly. I slick my hair straight back, like Johnny Depp in Donnie Brasco, and when I did it pre-finasteride I would comb out around 40-50 hairs. Soon after finasteride it went down to around 15, and now its single digits.

I didn't even risk it when I went to my Dermatologist. My hair is thick as it is and long enough that it completely covers my temple recession. One look at my head and you wouldn't know I was balding. I fully expected the Doctor to give me a "you have a full head of hair," "that's just a maturing hairline," "stick with minoxidil for now." I very pleasantly, but firmly, told my derm. that I wanted to hop on Finasteride to maintain what I have. He did say a bit about minoxidil should be enough for now, but was reasonable and sent me off for bloodwork and then finally wrote the script. If you're firm and act knowledgable about finasteride I doubt a doctor would give you much resistance.
