First off I'm 34 and with the exception of a little receding on the corners of the temple I have always had a full head of hair.

However when I was around 22 I noticed a very small bald patch (about the size of a sweet pea) just above my widow's peak. I only noticed it cause I have been buzzing my hair for years. Over the years it grew a little bit bigger, but it hasnt expanded in many years and now it's maybe three quarters of an inch. (also, over the years I have noticed others who have thick full heads of hair but this same small patch of hair missing just above the temple, dead center, guys with buzz cuts obviously) I've always kept close watch but never took any measures in regrowing that spot. About 3 years ago I decided to get on propecia. Wasnt really losing hair but I was getting a little older and thought propecia would be a good way to forever secure the hair I already had. Plus I thought the small patch of hair might actually grow back but it never did.

Recently I have started noticing some 'lines' on the top of my head. Lines that look thinner than the rest of my hair, two in particular. One of them seems to continue at the top of the small bald patch I mentioned above. Like I said these are not bald areas but they are definitely thinner than the rest, otherwise I wouldnt have noticed.

Being that I'm already on both propecia and nizoral, if you were me would you also get on rogaine after noticing these 'thinning lines'? I'm starting to get a little nervous cause i've never noticed them before and also I'd really like to see if rogaine could possibly grow back that bald patch above the temple.

Please tell me what you think.

Thanks for the reply.

So looking at my hair, do you think I have thinned at all? My roommate says I'm nuts and doesnt notice any difference what so ever. Even I cant really tell much unless I look in a mirror just under a light. If I grew my hair out (which i'm probably gonna do to avoid being paranoid about every single line I see in a shaved head) I doubt I'd notice any difference at all.

I am already on propecia and would jump on minoxidil as well but if i do that I know it's going to be a life time commitment (or at least until i no longer care about how I look). Also I heard minoxidil can cause bad shedding and in some cases make your hair look even worse than it did to begin with. I'm gonna have to really ponder this one.

Well, if Propecia didn't do much in 3 years, I guess it's logical to start minoxidil.
Yes, it's a PITA to have this routine everyday, but looking at your very short hair, I'd say it wouldn't cause more hassle than for example [putting shaving cream/shaving/putting aftershave] routine every moring.

i would not grow your hair long, well not just yet anyway.. it will be a pain in the arse to apply the minoxidil.. it looks as if there are some small minaturised hairs so it looks like minoxidil could give you some good results. yes its a lifetime commitment but so is brushing your teeth ;)
