If you stop taking minoxidil, does it make the hairs that it touched fall out even if those follicles weren't the one restored?

I kind of hear whispers sometimes where if minoxidil touched your scalp, and then you stop taking minoxidil/ rogaine that the hairs will be even thinner than they would if you didnt take it at all. Like the follicles get tired out.

Is there any truth to this notion?
