IF a cure comes out, theoretically would we be able to get off finasteride?

This is very hypothetical and i dont know too much about current research/potential cures- but if they were to find something, would that mean we could get off finasteride? Ive only been on 7 months but i dont plan on stopping until theres a cure

I don't see why not. If like you said it was a cure, it would render other treatments obsolete. I wouldn't spend too much time thinking about it, if there ever is a cure, it's not going to be in the near future.

To be fair though if the cure is going to be something like growing hair follicles from ipc's then who knows. Implanting them into the same conditions in the scalp could mean finasteride is needed. And to be frank it could be a point where we can grow hair follicles before we fully understand everything about hairloss.

No, you'd have to take even more finasteride. /sarcasm

What the hell would be the point of a cure then?

A legitimate cure would be where we get back all our original hair, correct the genetic defect(s) that causes hair loss, and will require no dependent treatment to keep the hair.

Only issue would be with hair transplants due to the scar tissue that forms around the graft punches but it depends on how this cure would work but this is a needle in a haystack since you would have so much hair that it wouldn't matter.

Yup.... whats the point about caring about scarring that will never be seen?

What kind of cure? Another balls-kicking anti-DHT drug? No thx. The actual cure must be safe. We suffered enough.

Is it a cure a "pill" acting as preventive? In other words, using it when you have all healthy hair, and never loss your hair. is a cure or preventive treatment?

I think that realistically speaking it will be a long, LONG time before there's a miracle drug that could theoretically stop male pattern baldness + reverse it entirely, which is what I assume you mean by "cure". What's more likely to happen in my opinion is that someone will come up with an alternative to finasteride/dutasteride that stops male pattern baldness in its tracks but without messing with your hormone levels (to avoid all of the potential side effects of inhibiting DHT). This is still effectively a cure, but it's preventative. Think of it as a vaccine of sorts. If you're already bald, odds are that your only options going forward are going to be along the lines of things like Minoxidil, transplants, and the cloning of follicles from stem cells.

I just don't see a miracle drug both stopping and regrowing hair that's long gone anytime soon with our current medical limitations. Maybe I'm wrong though. Hopefully I am. In the event such a drug finds its way to the market, I would imagine treatments like finasteride would become obsolete.
