Hi all,

I would like to share a journey I have been on with Finasteride.
I think it might be helpful to some.

I fully acknowledge finasteride has been a wonder to so many with their battle against hair loss.

Feb 2011 start oral Finasteride.
Subsequent three months significant thickening of my hair.
Month four it begins to shed.
Month five and shedding continues but now my actually hair is thinning, along with my facial hair, leg/arm/arm pit, chest and pubic hair
Month six, things continue to get worse.
By month 8 the hair at the back of my head and sides is thinning now.

Continue to ride this out and hope things will improve.
By month 10 shedding stopped, still continue to use finasteride

Most of shed never grew back, but some did.
Back and sides of hair thinning revered back to normal

Looking back should have quit finasteride then but didn't.
Hindsight is wonderful
Late 2015 had a hair transplant and only recently looking at pics of that morning truly appreciated how much damage oral finasteride did to my hair back then.

Fast forward May 1st 2020 and yes still on finasteride, 1 mg daily
The nest two weeks was to cut it out completely by reducing dose but adding topical finasteride
This is the day I looked at my hair transplant photos from late 2015 again and realised just how much finasteride depleted my hair so decided with lots of time on my hands during Covid to experiment with topical finasteride

Made my dose in minoxidil, 1 mg crushed up, bad sides, headache, ball ache, exhausted at night, stiff neck, changed to .5mg and ball ache gone, but start getting stiff neck worse, now issues with testicles, yes this sh1t really happens, they can reduce in size, went on Vitamin D supplement and issue pretty much resolved. Did not want to go cold turkey and quit topical finasteride
Reduced to .25mg and still tiredness and stiff neck and if I skipped vitamin D problem down stairs again

Last year I tired Trinov for six months, decent enough results but not worth 70 euro a month, but I know it has a liposome carrier. So decided buy it again and use that as vehicle for finasteride.

16 days ago put my finasteride in this vehicle
No issues downstairs even when don't take Vitamin D
Morning wood back, I would say ten out of last 16 days, sometimes really really strong, increased libido.

But now have pain on back of one side of head, left ear feels like popping, still stiff neck and redness of face. All on 0.5mg, my theory is because it is now delivered locally without going systemic unlike minoxidil vehicle, it is all concentrated in that area.

Have reduced to 0.1mg, red face gone, back of head pain severely reduced, stiff neck not so bad but have decided I don't know if I am doing any damage so my journey ends on finasteride

Also topical finasteride messes with my sleep, broken sleep and waking up maybe two hours earlier, cannot go back to sleep.

Cosmetically my hair has hugely improved in last three months.

I know what a very long post, but wanted to share that I have tried everything from oral finasteride, to minoxidil vehicle for finasteride to liposome vehicle for finasteride, but I have to give up.

Some of us just are not suited to finasteride and similar

Oh oral finasteride made my right testicle smaller than my left but I never once, never got ball ache from oral finasteride

Anyone wants to ask anything, feel free.

I would also like to say, over the years I have read many posts on various fora from some finasteride users describe some awful sides they got and even I not fully believed them or thought it was in their heads.

My journey particularly on topical finasteride has taught me, these guys are not making up their stories, for some this drug really has nasty nasty sides.

Perhaps people should try start at lower doses, looking back now, my doctor prescribing me 5mg to cut into four 1.25mg may have been better to start on .25mg and then quit

Also forgot to mention in OP, changing to topical finasteride gave me very very vivid dreams.
