I thought balding was based on genetics?

this is for all of us who dont have bald parents. just to show how random the baldness gene truly is.

A few observations:
That inherited from the mothers side theory is BS.
Howard Stern is a suspected rug wearer. Sean Astins father is hardly suffering badly from hairloss, neither really are Clooney or Pitts it not like their even really nw3's
Many of these fathers are really old! Perhaps they maintained a good head of hair until their 40's,50's,60's. Personally I would'nt care at that age but I lost mine in my 20's.

yeah I agree with s.a.f., most of those dads are really old and their hair doesn't even look that bad. I bet they had a full head of hair when they were in their 30's-40's.

Definetely not the same as when you lose it in your 20's.

you can inherit it from either parent, and it can skip a generation

but surely men with *** bald fathers SHOULD theoretically be MUCH more susceptible to hair loss than a person whose parents dont have hair loss but may have had a great uncle who did.

i think its all bullshit and unfair. every magazine i see with celebs and their parents have bald fathers. Why do they have such overly-amazing locks if such a direct blood relative carries such strong nw5 and above genes.

and it skips generations...what the f*** is that? granted i dont know much about genetics, yet...but it seems to me that i know a lot more people whose hair looks great and have nw7 fathers while my dad never receded(maybe thinned as of this year but he was on steroids for a lung disorder and specific medications known to have hair loss as a side effect) and my hair is going to sh*t.

the only reason you see those people in magazines or wherever is because they are good looking, which means they have nice hair (for the most part)

you don't see bald men in those magazines because they are not good looking (for the most part), but if you did you might see bald men with parents who have no hairloss, etc

genetics is a big factor, how predisposed you are from birth

how early you start to lose hair and how extensive your progression is may be influenced by other factors as well

stupid post, no offense, but a history of male pattern baldness will likely mean you will have it too, but its not 100%, last time i checked, we were not copies of our father but only 1/2, and its the combination which determinds, not either or only

plust that mark walberg (sic) is losing his now too

JayB, plus, part of being able to be, become, and maintain being a celeb, is having good looks, and HAIR... i cannot believe you dont think of this in your post... as others have mentioned...

this is like asking why there are so many 6 foot 8 males in the NBA, even though most of their parents weren't 6 foot 8. The tallest best players will be in the NBA, and the attractive people with full heads of hair will comprise a large portion of celebrities.

yea i hear you all. i just get frustrated. it annoys me that some people can have such amazing hair that their known for it, while the direct gene donor is bald as a cueball.

and then there are others who have awful hair and who cant even trace baldness to their grandpa.

i really cant stand it sometimes

Genetics are either a blessing or a curse.
My mums family is short, my dads family are tall.
My mums family have bad eyesight, my dads all have perfect vision.
I seem to have inherited all the worst features from both sides.

My girlfriend has 2 brothers, one with a thick full head of hair and another who has about 10 hairs on his head. Otherwise, they look quite similar. Its all a crap shoot where you get your hairloss from.
