I Think My Left Temple’s Hair Is Thinning

Hi everyone,

I’m 18 years old. I’ve always liked to keep my hairline clean and lined up, and I noticed something wrong with my left temple, I’m really scared about being in the beginning of the balding process since I’m trying to grow my hair very long. I don’t know if it just seems weirder now because my hair is longer, I’ll let you guys judge by yourselves (first pic is from 2016 when I had short hair, second one is a photo of my left temple when i push my hair back, third one is a pic of my right temple) the hairline was literally perfect in 2016 as you can see.)

My dad has a full set of hair and no balding at all, not even a receided hairline, so does his dad. My maternal grandpa however had male pattern baldness (not completely bald, just a bald crown and a receided hairline). My brother at 21 doesnt seem so have any sign of male pattern baldness too. 3 of my mother’s brothers have a full set of hair except for one.

is it normal for hair to be thinner around one single temple and rather normal at the other? Am I just obssessing over it?

ima be real I have no idea if it can be naturally thinner at the temples. but your hair looks good and u just need to keep an eye on it. my right temple is thinner than the left one and a lot of people on here will say that's how their male pattern baldness started.

Right now my struggle is figuring out whether the thinning is visible due to me growing my hair (and not combing it btw, since im growing dreads), or do I have to accept the fact that I might lose my hair eventually

Thank you for your answer !

I mean it will most likely eventually happen with age just gotta hope it doesn't happen when you are young. but ur hair is fine try not to worry and just come back in a year and see if its changed at all.

Thank you so much for you answers, I will try to take a photo of my hairline monthly to check the "progress" if I may call it that way, although I don't plan on taking meds if I happen to be balding

Any other opinion?

you don't seem to have any sign of hairloss.
Your hair reminds me of my golden age, i have the same hair characteristics.

I really appreciate the reassurance from both of you

But how can you explain the small thinning at my left temple?

Okay guys I know I said I would stop worrying about my hair, and I’m sorry for sounding so whiny, but I really got a hard time believing this looks like a normal hairline with no minitiarizations or thinning or whatever, pic is attached

Why does this have to happen when I’m trying to grow my hair :(

They're called baby hairs bro. Kim Kardashian gets them lasered off and shes not balding.

Bro i get what you’re saying, but if you look at the very first picture I posted (in the original post), you’ll notice a difference

My hairline was what we could call a perfect hairline back in 2015, why would perfecrly normal hairs turn to baby hairs if it wasn’t for some kind of hair loss?

Because you're hair is longer now. Back then you wouldn't have noticed baby hairs as all your hair was kept short. If you're really worried then jump on finasteride but I really don't see a point tbh
