I think it might be stress

I'm about to turn 22 and I think my hair loss might be stress related. No one in my family is bald except my dad's cousin or second cousin. Always had really thick hair. I have been stressed out more than most people for my whole life and much more since high school and college. I suffer from some bad OCD and I've been to a psychologist and psychatriast.

In high school, I started to worry that I was going to get aids from someone bleeding on me or spitting in my eye. Yeah, it's crazy but I got over it but it was a good three, maybe four years of thinking I was going to die. Now I suffer from various existential crises that I don't care to get into and these are actually worse. Trust me, I'm not suicidial but I really wish I was dead a lot. I think this would classify as a high level of stress.

In high school, I cut my hair short and noticed the front part looked a little thinner than the rest, and lately I've been pulling out a lot of hair in the front. Also I think it's just in one spot. I have a hard time telling because of a bad cowlick but only the left side seems to have thinned. I'm also losing hair on my lower sides near my ears.

If it helps, some of my hairs that I found fallen out are shorter than they should be and some are thin, and some are all bent and wavy when my hair is only straight.

Thanks that makes me feel better. It's not so much whether I'm losing my hair or not, it's what's the cause of it. If a doctor told me "It's stress" then I would feel better. I'm setting up an appointment to a dermatologist soon though.

This last week I got my wisdom teeth taken out and they gave me oxycodone. While not a drug like Celexa that I had been on in the past, it finally calmed me down about everything so I know there's SOMETHING that works, too bad I can't take it anymore. I probably need to go to the psychiatrist again then.

Plenty of non-drug things out there one could try. Here's one on phospholipids and memory..related to stress:

Memory problems associated with chronic stress may be eased by phospholipids derived from milk, suggests a new study.

Results of a randomized, placebo-controlled trial indicated that ‘chronically stressed men’ had “significant[ly] better memory performanceâ€￾ who received a daily phospholipid supplement compared with men receiving placebo.

“Our data suggest that phospholipid improves the ability of the organism to adapt to chronic stress. A dose of 1 percent phospholipid may be protective in participants who are persistently exposed to chronic stress with respect to both physical and mental health,â€￾ wrote researchers from Diagnostic Assessment and Clinical Research Organization (Daacro) in Germany.

The study was funded by Denmark’s Arla Foods Ingredients and used the Lacprodan PL-20 ingredient.

A lot of people want stress to be the cause but they all eventually find out that's wrong. Everyone's life is stressful.

And at the same time nowhere near as stressfull as previous generations and 3rd world populations for whom everyday is a battle just for survival and yet they're not bald.

If your hairloss looks anything like typical mens hairloss (ie recession/ thinning) its not stress related.

Look guys, I'm pretty messed up in the head. Just trust me on that one. Also over the ears and one spot one the left side and nowhere else doesn't fit any of the charts I've seen.

It doesn't bother me so much if I was going bald for good anyway. I'd try and treat it, and if that didn't work I'd shave my head. I'm pretty good looking anyway and I think bald guys look pretty badass. I just really like my hair right now.

male pattern baldness exists in the ape - does this mean apes are stressed out?
