Hello comrades...

I have been a long time lurker of the forum and actually used to post under the name "browny" but couldn't retrieve the name back when the forum changed recently...

Anyway, as the title suggests - i'm contemplating starting Regaine foam 5% once daily, the reason i say i need encouragement is that i hold my hands up and say that i'm scared of getting the dreaded dark eye circles and puffy face/wrinkles, i have read numerous threads on these side effects and always find myself discouraged when i'm about to take the plunge...

I know it's wrong to read and dwell on these things, but i turn 30 in october and i do genuinely look about 24, so naturally i'm worried about ageing myself with minoxidil..

I have been on Revivogen for about a year and believe it has helped slow things down slightly, i have used tricomin for about 2 years with minimal success, my hair is getting quite thin at the crown now but no bald spot, i use concealer everyday and just wanted to use the minoxidil to try thicken this up so i can spike it out a bit more and hopefully use less and less concealer...my hairline has receded but i can style it to make it unoticable, i don't wanna use the min on there just yet...

I plan to use 1ml of the minoxidil in the morning, and my usual Revivogen at night, i guess my questions are...

1. What are the chances that i will get these side effects? And will just applying it once a day in the morning help reduce my chances of getting them?

2. Is it safe to say the vast majority of users don't experience side effects? I know these forums can ampify and make out these things to be alot worse than what they are in the grand scheme of things...

Sorry for the ramble, i think i either just need a nudge or to be totally warned off it for good...

P.s. i would possibly consider finasteride somewhere down the line, but not just yet...

As far as I can remember, serious side effects were noticed in 1-2% minoxidil users. That's the whining hypochondriacs from this and other forums that discourage people from the use of effective treatments.

You should have started with minoxidil and/or finasteride much earlier. If you value your hair, jump on 5% minoxidil+finasteride. You have 90+% chance that you will be successful.

Agreed, thanks for the reply...

I have been losing my hair very slowly for the past 8ish years, i knew about Minoxidil way back then but have always opted for alternative treaments out of fear of a massive shed or side effects...

When i style and use concealer on my hair it looks like i'm almost NW1 with a full head of hair, wash it all out and it's a different story, i have still got alot of dense hair but the crown is weak, i'm also getting tired of being a slave to the concealer every day....

I actually went to see my GP this week to talk about Propecia, he was a new doctor i had never seen before, about my age and extremely understanding about hair loss, he even said that he is thinking about jumping on finasteride soon as he is slightly receding, he said that finasteride obviously carries side effects but would give my a private prescription if i decide to take the plunge...

Anyway, i'm wanting to start minoxidil after the weekend, i feel i'm a very good candidate for possible crown thickening / regrowth, the 1-2% figure is definitely encouraging, and the fact it is sold in so many outlets here in the UK would mean there are thousands upon thousands of people using it without any problems...

My father has been using it for about 6 months he admitted he got puffy eyes for a few days but was using far too much and sleeping on his face etc whereas i will only be using it in the morning, so a few weeks ago i tested 1ml on my crown, i was pleasantly surprised with how fast the foam dries and the cosmetic thickening effect it gives, i had no headaches or irritation so i'm probably good to go...

One final question - if i apply it to my crown only, could it still affect the frontal area / hairline?

Thanks guys!

I've tried both. finasteride and minoxidil foam. finasteride gave me sides after 11 months and i decided to quit...and it took a good 3 months for the sides to completely go away. Some are luckier.

Then i decided to gave minoxidil a shot. Been on it for 4 months now (twice a day and did not miss a single application) and no sides at all yet. My hair has improved a lot, much thicker, darker and i'm sure 100% that i lose a lot less than before i started. Like when i shower i don't have a lot of hairs in my hands like before minoxidil.

In the past weeks, i got compliments from coworkers like: "hey, did you do something to your hair? They look darker?" :) They don't know and i just tell them that my hair are longer than usual... ;)

They are darker because they are thicker and healthier. They are alive again because of minoxidil. :)

I don't think minoxidil is dangerous, the best way to find out is to try and just quit if you get sides. I don't believe these sides are permanent anyway.

P-S: I also use Nizoral 2% 4-5 times a week.

Good luck.

My temples are gone since ~2008. So i don't expect regrowths there...but we never know and i always apply to the temple anyway. I still have my crown and top but there is some thinning....so hope minoxidil will help me save the crown and top. I dont realy mind a receding hairline...to some point.

What i do, is that i put more foam to the crown and top area in the morning and at night, i concentrate more on the frontal and temples area and it seems to work fine.

Hey Philly thanks for the reply...

It's always great to hear positive things about minoxidil, it's only been 4 months for you so i would expect your crown and top area to keep improving!!

I spoke to my dad earlier and he said his puffy eyes went away on their own after a few weeks and by reducing his dosage, he is a little out of the age range at 56, but it has without a doubt thickened up his existing hair......i just want my crown to thicken up becuase at the moment i can style the rest of my hair spiky but have to leave the crown flat and apply concealer, it. Looks kinda stupid...

I'm actually quite excited to try it now, i'm expecting a shed, but i have always got concealer at hand for that, and if i get sides i will just drop it, i think just using it once a day in the morning and not having it smearing all over my face from my pillow at night will give me the best chance of reducing them...

What i plan to continue doing though is applying tricomin to my hairline at the same time, i know the obvious thing would be to apply the minoxidil there too, but the thought of it receding further from a shed scares the sh!t outta me, so will test it on the crown for 4-6 months first...

I have tried nizoral in the past and always had massive sheds from it, so might start just 1-2 times a week..

Thanks again
