Guys, a little over a year since I have been doing nizoral and finasteride. I almost feel that I am holding my own so to speak but then again, my hair loss rate seems to be about the same as it was a year ago. That is to say, after blow drying, I scrape up a pinch of hair [say 30 hairs] to throw away. My front is getting extremely thin but, the small open patch on my crown has closed up.
I suppose my plan for the next six months is to stick with nizoral and finasteride for lack of any better strategy. How can I tell if I am a non-responder?
Any suggestions?

i've been trying to get suggestions too ... im on the same regimen as you (8 mos) Im guessing the next step is a topical anti - androgen... such as Eucapil or spironolactone 5%.

Can't really tell you wether it's working or not (been on it for about one month now) but Proxiphen is extremely easy in incoporate into your day. I'm receeding and finasteride hasn't really stopped that (I think) so I apply Proxiphen to the hairline every night - takes about 1 min - also I have been using it for 1 month and I could easily make this batch last for 3 months - have not even come close to using half of it.

When you look at the ingredients of Proxiphen it's very potent!

However if you're thinning everywhere and you still have a fair bit of hair I think you be better off trying Fluridil - since Proxiphen is a cream and a bit hard to apply where there is a lot of hair.....

BTW: I think you should stay on finasteride and ADD to your regimen...

BTW I seem to be loosing the same amount of hair as I did before I started treatment. When I shower there's hair everywhere and blow drying leaves a lot of hair behind as well. With all the hair I'm loosing every day I should be slick bald by now but I still have a really good head of hair...weird.....

The problem is that you can never tell how much your current treatment is helping until you stop it... Do NOT do that : ) . You are pretty much committed to meds for life (or until you decide to let it happen). With finasteride you are blocking DHT fairly well, and nizoral helps. The next thing you might add if you think you arent making headway is a growth stimulant.

Rogaine twice a day has proven effect and works as a growth stimulant. 30% have notable regrowth, others maintain better. Like the finasteride, once you start it you should stay with it.

Tricomin is another growth stimulant which works using copper to stimulate hair growth. It has a limited phase II study behind it, by report, and would be an easy, non-greasy, daily thing to add.

If those dont help after a fair 6 month trial ive heard that addition of retin-a to minoxidil might have some additional benifit. Others would choose another topical androgen blocker to augment the finasteride (azeilic acid or spironolactone).
