I need some insight to my issue

I'm not sure how to label my hair issue since it doesn't fit any of the patterns that were labeled as genetic hair loss. Mine is thin all round. The back, front, and sides are all the same. You can see straight through to the scalp. all the spacings between the hair are more or less the same.

So can someone help me out with this?

I've had this problem since I was 13, except that I had more hair back then, but everything just seemed to get progressively worse till it has reached the stage it is at now. I have hair all around, except it's thin and it doesn't look like there is much. I'll upload pictures in a week or so and maybe then you guys can get a better idea of what I'm talking about, thanks.

hi i got similar but better, diffuse all over scalp, first thing is to have all the tests like thyroid, iron zinc phosphate , antibody etc. and then just start propecia and nizoral. i think it would help alot. and also my theory is that u stop masturbation/ejaculating - http://search.japantimes.co.jp/cgi-bin/ ... 513t2.html.

another theory = testostrone = hairloss, because castrated men at puberty, never go bald. therefore burn ur testestrone by extreme "cardio" exersise e.g. running and cycling.

im waiting for my test results. lets see. i got all the symptoms of hypothyroid.and plus no family history of baldness/thinning at all up to 2 generations my grandad and his brothers and my other granddad and his bros.

and how old are you now?

Finasteride, NOW.

minoxidil would be pretty pointless. If finasteride doesn't help you then you COULD try dutas, if that doesn't work then just shave it really short and it probably wouldnt be very detectable. I have a feeling im going to suffer the same fate sooner or later.

Thanks for the response, and so you suggest I get a blood test to determine if there is anything wrong? Am I supposed to specify what needs to be looked at or will they do it automatically

I had two blood tests done before and they both didn't come back with any results they said that everything is normal.

I'll go abstinent for the next year and see if that changes anything.

My cardiovascular system is pretty bad I can barely run a mile. So I've recently started training since I plan to join the army. Hopefully that Helps, I can run 1km in about 5 minutes but after that I have to rest for a while.

I just turned 20.

What I noticed was all this started to happen when I was in grade 9 or 10 that's when my hair became excessively oily, I had very little pimples but my scalp was so oily to the extent that I'd smell horrible and look like it hadn't been washed for days and smelled that way too. This is when I began to notice that my hair was getting really thin. Anyway looking forward to your responses thanks.

Can you post some pictures stnl?

Just curious, does what I'm going through look abnormal?

NO, DO NOT LISTEN TO HIM. stnl is talking utter, utter rubbish and has no right to claim that whatsoever. There is NO link between masturbation and hairloss at all.

Please be very careful of the advice you take on these forums, make sure there is a consensus and get as much information as you can before taking such drastic action.

stnl; you're an idiot, shut yo mouth.

hi bleach,

When i said stop masturbating, i was referring from my own experience. I started masturbating at 15 and when i was 17 i noticed hair thinning , so i went to a doctor. The doctor said it could be due to stress. Then for an year I stopped masturbating completely, and what i realized is that my hair got "slightly" thicker and that was evident from my school id card photos and also by hours of personal mirror checking everyday for one year, under all sorts of lights. I started doing it again at 19/20 till now (23) but i have stopped it now and its been 6 days since i have stopped. The other reason why i say masturbation can cause harm is because i notice all the symptoms getting worse if i increase the frequency of ejaculation, e.g. heart palpitations, indigestion, constipation, joint pain, muscle ache, eye floaters, irregular heartbeats, dark eye circles, face swelling in morning, depression and anxiety. When i stopped masturbating completely for one year ALL those symptoms eased away and i was doing brilliantly at school once again and my stamina in sports increased as well, i could run 4.3 km in 16 minutes.

Thats my personal experience and if you research on the web you will find similar experiences from "thousands" of people. Another fact is that men that were castrated (testicles removed at puberty) never went bald, not even if they bald genes in the family. That suggests that testosterone plays an important role in hair loss. This also makes sense because post and pre world war II studies done in Japan show that baldness has increased significantly in men in Japan. Pre-world war Japanese men had a traditional lifestyle and many of them practiced abstinence and many were on low fat vegetarian diets. I have seen something similar in India , since i stayed there for a while. I noticed that the village men had fewer cases of baldness (this has also been noted in various studies) compared to the rich (city) Indian society. The farmers in northern India mainly grow wheat and also used licorice in their diet. Wheat and licorice are known to reduce testosterone in body. Farming community also practice abstinence, have vegetarian diets and have extreme exercise routine from 5am to 6pm daily (working out on farm).

I know my family history very well upto my both granddad and his brothers and none of them have even lost a single strand of hair ( imean never even receded) till their 80's. My hair loss is diffused un-patterned hair loss , very typical of illness related hair loss. I have all the symptoms of Hypothyroidism too.

Bleach you should ask your doctor to perform thyroid tests TSH, thyroid antibody test, colistrol levels and all the other tests for zinc , iron and phosphates.

Your hair does not look abnormal right now and I believe you will see some regrowth if you go on propecia.

Good luck

bleach53-

I have yet to see a standard "pattern" of loss for male pattern baldness. Mine was actually similar to yours in that the crown went first which seems to be the case from your pics..............though you have diffused thinning in front as well. Your sides are also a little thin...........have they always been that way?

Have you been to a dermatologist to see if you have male pattern baldness or possibly some sort of skin condition on the scalp contributing to your loss?

well i can tell you that when i was 13 it wasn't this noticeable. It only became noticeable towards the end of grade 10 and beginning of 11. The sides were always that thin. I have been to a dermatologist who said that nothing was wrong. I did two blood tests about a year apart and both came back with nothing.

No one I know of in my family has this problem, theres only 1 and it isn't even noticeable.

I think the crown looks thinner due to the lighting since the light was directly above my head and I had to put my head in awkward positions and move my phone around without having the same exposure to the light. I'm not sure though.

The only thing that might be considered a skin condition would be the excessive oiliness of my scalp. It gets oily within a few hours of showering. It's like 4 hours before it starts to get oily.

my pattern is the same as yours. But mine is advanced as I am 27 now. My scalp is crazy oily as well with whiteheads too. Are you asian by chance?

bleach, I had the exact same problem as you (excessive oily scalp). I noticed it at roughly the same time I started noticing thinning, when I was 17 yrs old. And I know what you're talking about when you say it smelt. I would never let ppl try on my hats b/c they just smelled so terrible, even when I wasn't sweating. I was forced to shampoo everyday b/c the smell and oiliness would be unbearable if I didn't.

My thinning wasn't as advanced as yours when I was your age, but I did have the same hairline. But now the smell and oiliness has decreased and it started when I began using the Big 3 (finasteride, minoxidil, and ketaconazole). I don't mean to sound like a salesman or anything, but trust me, it helped a lot (not mention, it also thickened my hair a bunch). Not sure if you'd want to jump on minoxodil right now b/c you'd have to use it on your whole head, but I'd definitely recommend finasteride (propecia) and ketaconazole (nizoral). I actually think those two, especially nizoral, helped with the oiliness.

btw, maybe this problem is mostly an Asian thing b/c I too am Asian.

well actually my hairline has always been pretty high even as a kid. Its only receded very little from what I can see, but from the temples that receded a bit.

How old are you now?

Do you have pictures?

So you recommend propecia and I'm already using nizoral shampoo. I'm using 2%.

Where can i get propecia and aren't there side effects?

I don't think it's just an Asian phenomenon. My father, who is White British, told me that he noticed an increase in oiliness concurrent with the start of balding in his mid 20s. I can't say that I noticed anything similar, though. If you believe Armando Jose's theory (see the other threads) problems with sebum flow 'cause' male pattern baldness by stimulating androgen sensitivity - which I don't buy, BTW!

I'm not familiar with Armando's theory, but I read somewhere that the excessive oiliness is more of a symptom than a cause of male pattern baldness. So I don't think we should be too concerned about sebum flow.

bleach, I'm 26. Started using the big3 at 25. Sorry, I don't have pictures (need to buy a camera soon), but I can tell you that your hair loss is different from mine. I have more of a classic balding pattern (receding hairline and thinning crown) with slight diffuse thinning. I only really relate to the smell and oiliness. People used to comment on those things, got quite embarrassing.

You can get a prescription for Propecia from a doctor and he/she will tell you where to get it. But if you want to skip the whole process of going to the doctor and get them cheaper, then try to find them online. But you'd have to question the reliability of some of those websites. Research this forum to find out what sites are the best. I live in Canada and most of those sites don't deliver here, so I can't help you with that (assuming you don't live in Canada of course).

If money is an issue, then I would recommend getting Fincar. It contains the same active ingredient found in Propecia (finasteride) but is a HELL of a lot cheaper. Over here, Propecia costs about $60 (canadian dollars) a month if I get it from a pharmacy. But if I buy Fincar online, I can get a whole years supply for that exact price. Just so you know though, you'd have to cut the pill into fifths b/c it contains 5 times the amount of finasteride found in Propecia.

And there are possible side effects, but I wouldn't worry about those too much. If you do develop serious sides (eg sexual ones) then you can always stop and they will most likely go away, or sometimes your body will adapt to the treatment and fix itself on its own. For me, I developed sensitive skin as soon as I started. I got rashes on my face whenever it was exposed to the sun. But I stuck with it anyways, hoping that it would go away, and it eventually did go away (after about a month).

So I would recommend getting on finasteride (propecia/fincar) and after about 8-12 months, if you don't get regrowth or not satisfied with the regrowth, then start using minoxodil (rogaine).

Hope that helps.

Do you have a website you can recommend for fincar? I'm from canada as well.

What type of hairloss pattern does mine look like?

And does masturbation have a role in hair thinning?

I read somewhere that masturbation that it does can anyone verify that?

How often do you do it?

I read that if you're doing it everyday or more then it could also be a factor. I read somewhere it had something to do with the release of testosterone causing DHT to be released more frequently or something...
